Indy 13

Yep, in 17 days, I will be running the Indianapolis Monumental (half) marathon...nope, still can't commit to doing a full. It's hard enough to find time to run during school training for a half, so it'll still be awhile til I do a full (if ever). A couple months ago, my sister Karleigh texted me to see how she would go about training for a half marathon. At that point, I had been contemplating running one this fall, but hadn't committed. She agreed to train and fly out to run with me, and that was all the motivation I needed. So...we will be running this "race" (I think of it more of a run than a race) in 17 days. I can't wait for her to come out and do it together.

I have come to a very real, yet somewhat disappointing reality. I have to pay money and sign up for races to really motivate myself to stay in shape. It is amazing how many times in the last 2 months I have wanted to just stay home and finish homework, eat dinner, not be sweaty by running between classes, etc. but knowing that I had paid money and Karleigh was coming, I have been motivated enough to go out and run. The beginning was rough, and I felt like it took me longer to get into shape than normal, but it's finally feeling good. Karleigh and I have been blogging on a private blog to each other, so it is like we are training together. It's been fun!
And finally, the best part of training for this half compared to the ones before...I finally like my shoes! I bit the bullet and actually went to a real running store (as opposed to finding a deal somewhere else) and had them help me pick up shoes, they watched me run in several pairs, etc. and I absolutely love them. It is worth the little bit of extra cash, I promise! PS-synthetic instead of cotton socks are amazing too! Do it!

Well hopefully I'll find time to post about it (sorry, I'm a blogging slacker recently) in a couple of weeks when we're done. Wish me luck...I'm going to need it!

  5. I am proud of you and Karleigh! I am so glad that the shoes have made a big difference for you. It is amazing how people are so different in their stance, walk and run from others. Oh well, I guess that makes the world more interesting.
