Carlsbad staycation

The day after Christmas, we headed up to Carlsbad in the afternoon to play at the beach and spend the night at a timeshare my aunt and uncle had but weren't using until later in the week. We got there just as the sun was setting over Del Mar, so watched that and then headed to Pizza Port for dinner. The wait time for food was ridiculous, but it was delicious and we had fun hanging out, luckily there was room for the kids to run around a bit. Then we headed to the time share, hung out for a bit and then headed to bed so we could play all day Tuesday.
We woke up and Grant and I took Boden for a run. We reminisced about living in Oceanside and getting to run on the beach like that in the perfect weather everyday. (I got to run on the beach in Oki too but it was a bit different :)
We then walked to brunch at Cafe Elysa, and then came home and headed to the beach. The condo was in a great location, right next to Carlsbad village and across the street from the beach.
The weather was PERFECT! After an hour or so, there was a breeze that made it a little bit chilly, but the sun was still warm and it was a perfect beach play day.
Sporting their new car and truck hats from Christmas
Had fun running around with Aunt Holly
We got Board and Brew sandwiches for lunch (it was close enough that Holly and I just walked up to get them), and then burned off some calories with a little game of Smashball. We don't get to play as often anymore because we're usually at the beach alone with the kids, so it was fun to be able to...and then the kids wanted to join in.
Grant dug them a huge hole that they loved playing in!
I really do miss living at the beach. The other day Rowan said that he wanted to go back to Okinawa because he missed going to the beach everyday. Even though I try to go about once a week, it's still not enough for my beach boys. I am definitely one of my happiest selves when I'm at the beach with my family though! Grateful that we live as close as we do so we can go often!
