I have enjoyed them throughout my stay here as I've been eating "fruit soup" (a combo of a bunch of cut up fruit in juice-amazing!) each day here. I think I get enough fruit for the year in the few days/weeks I am home each year.

Persimmon picking
Not only can you get an amazing farmer's market here, we have little bits of goodness all around the yard. I missed most of the fruit this summer but the persimmon tree was ripe and ready to pick! We got an entire laundry basket full and there is still more :)

We thought about Grandpa Layton and the fact that he would have loved the enormous crop this year, letting them sit out until they were mushy (and rotten) before eating them...but he appreciated and loved them more than anyone else. I'll think about him each time I eat a persimmon :)

Well....I'd be happy to pay for shipping if you would care to send some to me. Lucky you. The only thing I get from the 10 trees I have is tons and tons of leaves. I spent ALL DAY raking the back tard yesterday. Seriously!
ReplyDeleteAre Persimmons better in Cali? Cuz the ones in the supermarket here are kind of yuck.
ReplyDeleteI was just going to ask before I read the last line in your post if you had made fruit soup with these. I remember searching for persimmons the first time I made it away from home and everybody acted like they'd never heard of one. I was so used to them from every Sunday dinner at Grandma's!
