We were totally lost a few days ago, but now we are already becoming comfortable with the skills (ex. IV start, IV piggyback, trach suction, and trach care).
Last week looking through all our IV start materials, so much stuff and we had no clue...
Today we were planning to go into school and practice, but unfortunately the lab was being used, so to still feel accomplished today, I decided to practice for a bit. There is a whole "script" things you have to make sure to say and do, or else you fail, so I ran through it a couple of times (yes, talking outloud to myself), but I felt like I couldn't get the full affect without the arm to stick, so I found the only willing participant that I could...
It worked great (except he was a little hairy for the tape :) Hopefully my next victim will be alive, with good blood return when I stick them!
I would have gladly let you start the IV I had a few months ago when I had surgery-I am sure you wouldn't have stuck me as many times :)- good luck! I am sure you will do great!
ReplyDeleteYou're so funny. I love that you get creative with your hands-on learning. You'll be such a good little nurse someday:)
ReplyDeleteThis cracks me up! I'm very encouraged that you are practicing seriously and hopefully others are too because I am one of those that gets crazy dizzy if the nurse misses the first time! I am so impressed you are brave enough to be doing this to real people soon. Good luck!
