There is something about being in California (specifically at home in Davis) that just prompts me to live a healthier life. I cannot pinpoint the cause, whether it be extra time because I'm on vacation, the flat landscape with miles of bike paths, the perfect weather, the fresh fruit, etc. but whatever the case, I love it. I only wonder if I were to move back, if this desire would remain, or be lost in a busy normal life.
Karleigh and I opted to ride bikes to Target the other night, instead of driving...I am continually amazed that I can reach destinations miles away from my home, and not have to ride on the street at all. There are bike paths EVERYWHERE, bike racks at every store and even a freeway overpass devoted completely to bikes. I love it!

For awhile now, I have wanted to get a nice road bike, but haven't had the money, the commitment, the time, etc. so while I was home, I decided to borrow my dad's (since it was in need of love, since he just had open heart surgery for a valve repair a few weeks back and isn't allowed to ride for at least 6 weeks). I have absolutely loved it. I've gone on a few short rides, and some longer, all around town, going past my high school, junior high, and elementary school, including so many friend's houses...a literal ride down memory lane. (I also this trip have learned the value of padded crotch biking spandex!)

Each morning, I have gone for long walks with my mom or done a good run, or both...and I have also done some circuit training in the yard with some real gems that I found in the garage!
The SKIP-IT! I don't know how I did it as a child without ripping my ankle to shreds (my mom said it was probably because tube socks were popular back then :) haha...but had to wrap the Ace bandage to spare my skin. This was a serious workout though (although I look a little ridiculous)!

The pogo stick is my other childhood workout love...my personal best is 753 jumps...at which point I decided to just stop, but this is also an amazing workout! The neighbor came out the other night saying she was wondering what the sound I was making was, haha!
I have also been hula hooping and jump roping...all fun ways to stay fit. I need to work on finding fun ways to work out at home. I need to get more consistent so I can see results, but for now, it is fun to have workouts I enjoy and a place I love doing it!
What memories!!! I loved my pogo stick and skip it! Who knew we were even working out those days? So did you remember your personal best from years ago, or did you get back on! HAHA Glad you have gotten to spend time with your family in Davis. Now you just need to head south to SD in the beginning of August for some beach time with me and the fam!
