Weekend countdown

Of course the moment I found out I was pregnant, I downloaded a few apps to track it, tell me my due date, compare my baby to the size of a fruit, etc. At my last appointment, my midwife said, "I'm sure you already know this and it's on your phone, etc. but just thought I'd let you know your due date is May 18." How right she was :) I think the first thing I did after seeing 2 pink lines on that pee stick was figure out what day this little thing is due :)
On the home screen it shows how far along I am (currently 12 weeks 5 days) and right above it, it has a countdown (27 weeks 2 days)...initially I thought very little of the countdown, but this weekend it occurred to me, that this is really a countdown of how many "selfish" weekends I have left...where I can choose what I want to do, when I want to do it, etc. And in that same thought, we grabbed our bikes (because I fear my countdown for this being an option is even less than 27 weeks) and headed down the coast. It was the first weekend of November and one of the most beautiful yet (I swear I've said that the last 3 months). We rode about 7 miles south and stopped at the beautiful Carlsbad cliffs for some water and to take in the view.

As we left our place, we realized there was some sort of race taking place that started less than 0.5 miles from our house. We didn't see many bikers in the beginning, but as we started heading back from south Carlsbad we pretty much became a part of the race. It was actually kind of fun. It wasn't a super intense race, more of a ride, so we kept up pretty well. As we approached home we continued to ride along the race path and crossed the finish line! There was cheering and clapping...it was kind of fun (and funny).
Once we got home we continued in our free and fabulous Saturday. We cleaned the bird cage (Conrad will be returning home very shortly), planted some flowers on our balcony, then headed down to the sand for lunch and to plan our lesson for church on Sunday. As I showered and got ready, Grant watched some car shows, then we walked around the outlets and went to PF Changs for dinner. There was really nothing out of the ordinary or spectacular, but it was one of my favorite Saturdays in a really long time. I am now more mindful of how I use my time and hope we can continue to enjoy. This weekend...hangout with my parents!

  1. Those weekends are the best--and sometimes I need to remember that instead of worrying we're not being productive :) Biking in California in November looks positively glorious!

  2. Did you just make an announcement? Or have I given myself away that I'm behind a few blogs. You are going to be the best mother to a little surfer, biker, runner to be.
