Fireball Christmas tree

From the night we bought our Christmas tree, we decided that a bon fire would be in store for it after Christmas. We have had it drying on the patio for the last few weeks and tonight we decided to have some fun with it (and finally get to clean off the patio ;) We threw it on top of the protege and got funny looks the whole way to the harbor and the real attention came when Grant walked on the beach with a Christmas tree and a bottle of lighter fluid. We were the talk of the beach for the evening...
How many dentists does it take to start a fire? I see 4 here and it's still not happening :) Luckily Grant pulled through in the end...As Grant threw lighter fluid on the tree I said, "This is why I'm freaked out to have a boy!" I'm not sure that my rather tame childhood in a house full of girls has prepared me to be the mother of a boy (especially a boy who's father is Grant!)
You always hear about people losing their houses at Christmas due to tree fires...so I was expecting something huge...but I think I was still surprised by the intense heat and the size of the flames!
I love the backdrop of the sunset colors with the flames...
As the fire ball died down, I was less anxious and thought it looked pretty awesome! Poor little tree had no chance! Fun photos.
The tree fire was quite short lived, but the trunk burned for a long time along with the other wood we brought. It wasn't too cold out but chilly enough to enjoy the fire. We made smores and enjoyed the company of friends on the beach (Ann, Lindsay, Brooke, Heidi, Brian and Willie)

It was a great end to our MLK holiday weekend...especially since we walked over to the harbor and had fish n chips when we were done (which Grant had been craving for days). It was a dessert (smores) before dinner kind of night...not bad!
