A few hours after he left, Grant texted me and said, "I just found out I got into endo." I was so confused because his interview wasn't until the following Thursday so it seemed impossible. Even if they had decided they wanted him, they couldn't have said anything before the interviews were over, etc. As our text conversation continued, he said someone had actually dropped out (been kicked out) of this year's program, and as first alternate, he was given the spot. However, the way he found out was so strange, as it was announced in front of everyone at the Dining In, after a lot of alcohol had been consumed, etc. Grant said he was pretty certain it was real. So the next morning we got on the phone and confirmed that it was in fact true, there was a spot available to him, and his command was going to support him being able to go (even though we had less than a month notice until his program started!) So...he had 2 weeks to get orders (which happened in record time), get his car together enough to at least tow out there, figure out where he was going to stay, tie things up at work here (luckily they let him be pretty much done with work from that day forward), and then we had to decide what the best course of action for our family would be moving forward. Logistically it was impossible for all of us to go out together, since we couldn't even schedule movers that early. I was a mess of emotions from excitement that he had gotten into this program he had been trying to, complete sadness that we were already leaving San Diego (and the house I love, and the preschool we had Rowan signed up for, and family and friends, etc) We decided Grant would leave June 20, and the boys and I would follow at the beginning of August. We had several scenarios and that was the one that continued to feel best to us!
