The addition of the loft is the largest and only "construction" project that we have decided to take on. The vaulted ceiling in the kitchen was nice but sort of felt like wasted space so we decided to add a loft that we will use as an office/lounging area. Ron and Tammy (Grant's parents) came up to help us with the construction of it and Grant and Ron got the entire thing framed in 1 day! Now we're on to the electrical fun stuff (which I am NOT excited about-but I will be when it's done) and then just finishing it all up. We passed our first building inspection so that was good news :)

The large load of lumber from Home Depot...the day started 8 am with a trip down the road to Home Depot (one of our most frequented stores these days).

We taped up plastic all over the kitchen to minimize the dust... it sort of worked :)

Next we cut out a piece of drywall along the top of the whole kitchen to fit the 2x10's in.

Here we screwed boards all through the drywall hole to put the hangers up and run the rest of the 2x10's all of the way across.

The floor is framed in :)

Grant making a cute face while they start to sweat bad...just because they were working hard!

Hanging from the new ceiling... I guess to prove to me that it won't break :)

Testing out the new floor, a little bit at a time, I was a bit weary but I guess it's strong enough to hold me up!

A view from below...

And it's not falling down! It's going to be a great new space.
Amazing. You guys are amazing! This looks great! Who builds stuff anymore? Heroes. True heroes. Once again, I wish I was there to help. It is so exciting to see a makeover done!
