Because of the short break, our distance from family, the uncertain weather, and our sparse finances, Thanksgiving has come to be a holiday we spend at home with our friend "family." We are fortunate to have lots of people we love here in Lexington, and this year we got to spend Thanksgiving with the Schiebels.
I spent most of Wednesday cooking, preparing for Thursday so that it could be an enjoyable day, free of mess, etc. I hate finishing a meal and feeling like there are 3 hrs worth of dishes to do. So, I am happy to report that with a little early prep work, dishes were held to a minimum and we enjoyed an amazing and delicious meal.
Unfortunately we don't have very many pictures of us...mostly because now that there are babies to take pictures of, they get lots more camera time...and probably the biggest reason is because Grant and Al were too busy the whole day taking artsy pictures with their new cameras, comparing lenses, etc.
Like I said, don't mind the artistic food pics, just fun with the camera. Craisins, apples and cranberries for the stuffing.

Tried a new recipe for sweet potatoes this year...they were definitely dessert like, Ruth's Chris recipe.
Check it out.
Since it was just the 4 of us, we opted to just cook a breast instead of the whole bird. It turned out perfect! That is definitely my new favorite way to make turkey...might have to make it a Thanksgiving tradition (except that Grant loves dark meat too)...

Some less than traditional Thanksgiving drinks...but always have to have my Martinellis.

All out and ready to eat!

And the pies! I'm not really a fan of pie (in fact, I haven't even eaten a bite of pie all week), but Grant LOVES pie, so for him, I made his favorites...Cherry with a crumb topping and pumpkin with lots of whipped cream. And for the non-pie eaters (Karrie and I), made pumpkin cake with cream cheese frosting, it was delicious.

The new camera takes some pretty cute face shots...it's good for more than pics of teeth (the reason for the purchase in the first place) and food.

And here is Madi, after we broke the news to her that she would not be living in Lexington next year for Thanksgiving... Yes Madi, I feel the same way about the situation!
Beautiful display of food! the only thing that would have made it better, is if we were all together. Beautiful job Taryn, glad you had great friends to share it with.
ReplyDeletethe meal looks amazing!! and those babies are super cute.
ReplyDeleteYummy!!! Your food looks like it turned out great-- good job! You'll have to teach me how to cook a turkey one day when I am in charge of the meal!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness those kids are so good looking! Who's the baby daddy?
ReplyDeleteThat's how Thanksgiving is for us too! No family just friends... The food looks delish!
