Last weekend was definitely an exciting one in Lexington! UK made it into the Final Four, and although we avoided the craziness of downtown, we had a quiet little party with some good food.
With sugar cookies on the brain, I decided to make more this week for a presentation I had to do for my OB class. I was teaching about truths vs myths about types of induction, and got my group to interact, by feeding them and writing funny stuff on them. Can you guess which ones really work?
I got this recipe from my friend Beth a couple of years ago, and I really think it might be the best one ever! I love it. With her permission, I share it here :)
Cookie:
2 c shortening
2 c sugar
2 eggs
2 t baking soda
1/2 t salt
3/4 c milk
3/4 c corn starch (I think this is the secret because I haven't seen other recipes like this)
5-1/2 c flour
Mix shortening, sugar and eggs. Add the rest of the ingredients a few at a time, mixing well. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes (can be overnight, etc) so it is firm enough to roll out. Divide in half (if you made the whole recipe) and roll out on a floured surface to desired thickness.
Bake 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Pull out when lightly golden brown (too long will make them crunchy). Cool and frost.
Frosting:
1/2 c butter
8 oz cream cheese
powdered sugar (sorry, I don't have a measurement), just to the consistency you want (probably a couple of cups)
2 t vanilla
If too thin, add more sugar, if too thick, add small amounts of water at a time.
Decorate and enjoy :) Wilton gel food coloring is the best way to color!

Love the OB cookies!
ReplyDeletePretty sure that I'm in love with the OB Class cookies...how many sugar cookies can say "Nipple Stim", or "Sex" and be found outside of an adult store?! Taryn, you are AWESOME!!
ReplyDeletePretty clever with the cookies! Sorry you lost some of your dip and UK didn't win. Did I mention how cute your cookies are? Super cute!
