"Babymoon" Saturday

Since I was about 12 weeks pregnant, I've sort of been counting down the weekends that we had to ourselves. We've been married for 9 years which has obviously provided us with lots of weekend dates together, not having to think about much else. But that is about to change! Assuming he comes by his due date (which I'm still not sure is going to happen), this was our last weekend as just a couple! We decided to make the most of it (and also wanted a day full of walking to see if we could encourage him out), so decided to head up to Newport Beach for the day.

We left our house around 6:30 am so we could hit up "Cars and Coffee" in Irvine. It's a weekly car show early every Saturday. Grant has been a few times and wanted to take me/wanted to go again before we leave, so I obliged. We stayed there for a little over an hour. This awesome Fiat was my favorite :) It even had 3 rows of seats!
I realized that I have sort of wanted a doughnut my entire pregnancy, but am pretty sure I haven't had even 1, so we decided to change that. We went a little crazy (I made up for those months of not having one), but they were so delicious. We split these 4 yummy doughnuts for breakfast from Oh Those Donuts in Newport Beach.

I was a little grossed out by the amount I consumed, but Grant assured me he ate more :) And he's been running like crazy recently so really, neither of us needed to feel guilty. haha.
Next we headed to Balboa Island to walk around for a couple of hours. Grant had never been so we had fun walking through all the shops as well as along the bay, checking out the amazing homes and private piers.
The shops are all so fun. We found some cute little wooden whales in aqua and white to hang in the nursery as our little souvenir from Balboa Island. I found a little outfit at a baby boutique that we both LOVED, but I just could not justify the cost (he already has a lot of cute clothes :) So...we opted for the whales which were much more reasonable and really cute.

Unfortunately I was really sore yesterday so walking was not comfortable (which wasn't fun but I was ok with because sometimes I feel like discomfort means he'll come soon) so we took a few breaks (since we planned to spend the entire day walking around). Fortunately/unfortunately I'm feeling back to "normal" today...I think I just overdid it on my walk from Friday which carried over into Saturday's soreness :)

After we were done at Balboa Island, we decided to drive over onto the peninsula and check out the beach. Yelp also helped me find a place to get a pedicure! (I was really happy with it and it was super affordable...perfect!) Grant had been painting my toes the last month or so, but I told him last time that if I made it to 39 weeks I was going to get a pedicure...and Saturday marked the day! I tried to get Grant to get one with me, but he didn't want to :( He just hasn't felt the magic yet! One day...

Next we went to Cafe Rio and split an amazing pork salad for lunch...and equally delicious was the ice! It was the best crushed ice I have EVER had. I know it's crazy to be so excited about it, but yum!
Our last real stop was Fashion Island. Huge mall with lots to see...and lots more walking. By this point I was pretty dang tired, but we kept going! There were some fun stores that we hadn't been to in a long time so it was fun to walk around. I also saw a cute macaron shop that was featured on Bakerella last week and since I still had not tried a macaron, we decided it was a must do! They were not cheap and I felt like I'd already eaten a lot, so we just got 2 to try, and took them to eat at home.
Pineapple and chocolate. I honestly didn't even know exactly what to expect, but they were delicious!!
We took PCH home, driving through Laguna Beach, Dana Point, etc. and watching an awesome sunset. It was sort of like a day-long baby moon, and Grant was very sweet and wanted to spoil me for my first unofficial Mother's Day. So...this morning I got my gifts (purchased yesterday). Two pairs of flips (which I have been shopping for for years) and a pair of bow earrings from Kate Spade (LOVE!) I'm a lucky girl to be married to an amazing guy and be pregnant with a perfect little boy.
Happy Mother's Day also to my and Grant's mom's...who love us unconditionally and set a great example of what motherhood is. I hope I can be as wonderful a mother to my children!
