At Rowan's 6-month checkup, the doctor pretty much gave us the go ahead to feed Rowan whatever we/he wanted, as long as it wasn't dangerous (i.e. choking hazard, etc). The new research has shown that introducing foods early does not in fact cause food allergies (which is what I kept telling Grant to keep him from trying to feed stuff to Rowan too early ;) and that early introduction is actually good unless there is a family history, etc of allergies. So, we slowly started introducing Rowan to new foods and he hasn't looked back. This kid LOVES to eat...and will eat just about anything :)
"Foods" include:
GRASS
SAND (his favorite non-food). He's working on eating all the sand of Okinawa, one beach at a time :)
PRUNES (and really likes any baby food fruit or veggie)...although some days are messier than others!
EDEMAME at the sushi-go-round
CHEESE STUFFED SHELLS (also one of our favorites :)
BANANA-self feeding is a hard thing for us because it is SO messy. But Rowan loves doing it and especially has fun with banana. He got sick of trying to stuff it in his mouth so decided he'd just suck it off the placemat :)
Puffs aka "baby Cheetos" Although his pincer grasp is still not quite there, he's gotten pretty good about getting puffs into his mouth and it is such a great thing to be able to feed him little snacks, especially when we're out. And look at those BLUE eyes!
He loves to play with my flour and sugar tubs, and I knew eventually he'd make a mess with them, but it's good entertainment when I'm doing things in the kitchen.
And the other day...it finally happened :) And along with everything else...he loved eating the flour. He made a nice "dough" out of flour and spit :)
And one of his very favorite foods? ICE CREAM (just like his dad). I always thought it was crazy when people fed their babies sweets (wouldn't it be better to just not let them try it, then they wouldn't know what they're missing?)...turns out we are those parents that let their kid try everything, even cookies and ice cream. It'll probably come back to bite us later, but it's so fun to see how much he loves it :) This was some delicious Blue Seal ice cream after a disappointing Japanese dinner (I don't know why we keep trying new places...we really just aren't fans of most of the food here).
Luckily, he's a good little helper and grilled up some burgers the other night when we were missing California food :)
So glad to have a good eater. I just hope he stays this way (and I know he definitely might not)...but we're going to hope!
Now give me a big sandy kiss! Love him!
Love those flour pictures! What a cutie!
