SUP Okinawa

We knew when we moved here that we not only wanted to spend a lot of time at the beach, but also in/on the water :)  We thought a kayak would best suit our growing family and picked up a nice one last summer for a good deal. We used it periodically, but it was heavy and big and took quite a bit of effort to get out and use. A couple of weeks we took it out again after work in front of our house. It was fun, but we decided it might be time to trade it in for a new kind of toy :)
So, we put it up for sale on bookoo and sold it the next day for as much as we bought it for new :)

Then, we went in search of what we really wanted next, a Stand Up Paddle (SUP) board.  We had done some SUPing last year in San Diego and loved it. We were hoping that Rowan would enjoy being on the board too, and he does! We found a slightly used board (the exact brand we were planning to buying new) and snatched it up for a good deal. In the 2 weeks we've owned our SUP, I think we've used it almost as much as our year with the kayak. It was a good investment, and now we're deciding if we should get another one :)
It works out ok right now, because one of us will paddle on the board with Rowan and then the other will snorkel around next to it. It is amazing to SUP here because the water is SO clear and it's like standing on the top of an aquarium!
Rowan and I paddled around searching for starfish, and then we'd send Grant over to pick them up for us! Rowan seriously LOVES starfish...it's so cute to see how excited he gets about them.
We made a little collection of them on our board (looks like something is eating starfish legs because a lot of them were missing legs!) and then Rowan threw them all overboard at the end.
Tonight, we were paddling around at sunset and it was so beautiful. There were a few other locals on SUPs, one with a little girl who Rowan was flirting with :) One of them had some amazing yoga moves on her board, it was fun to watch!

Loving our new toy and excited to continue to use it!
