The next day we decided to explore one of the few parts of the island that I am really unfamiliar with. It was fun to go somewhere new! In the morning we headed to Kailua on the East coast and enjoyed a morning run. We started at a park and went through a neighborhood along the beach that had us dreaming of living there! When we left and saw new condos being built that said 2-bdrm starting in the $700s, we realized those houses probably would never be a reality :)
We ended back in the park where Rowan got to watch the men in the trucks cut palms and coconuts down. He was in heaven and couldn't stop saying, "truck truck, beep beep". He LOVES trucks of all kinds.
For lunch we walked downtown to a delicious little Mexican place. Again, we were SO enjoying the food. The first time, when I moved to Hawaii, I felt like eating options were limited compared to what I was used to. This time, coming from Okinawa, I felt like I couldn't eat enough good food. Funny how much perspective changes everything!
Next, we drove down the coast and enjoyed a gorgeous drive to the southeastern point of the island, where the Makapu'u lighthouse sits. There was a nice trail up to it, and we got to see whales spouting in the ocean on the way up. It was pretty awesome.
We finished up with dinner in Waikiki again and then headed back to the hotel, where Rowan played until the wee hours of the morning again ;) He finally adjusted to Hawaii time the last 2 days we were there.
