Yaka Beach Egg Hunt

With Easter being so early in the year this year, it felt like it snuck up on us, but we were glad to have a few fun things planned to celebrate.
Our favorite fun tradition is the egg hunt on the beach! We invited the neighbors and a bunch of people from church, had a potluck and egg hunt. It was low key and perfect!
"Get in my basket!"
Everyone brings 12 eggs per kid who is hunting and hides them all over the beach before the hunt begins. The big kids have to look in the bushes, the little kids on the sand.

Rowan did a pretty good job last year, but this year he took it to a new level. It was so fun to watch him look and run from egg to egg. Every time he came to one, he would pick it up and shake it to make sure there was something in it before putting it in his basket. We couldn't let an empty egg get in there. We love candy!

I bought Rowan's basket at a gift shop here two years ago, but when I went searching for one this year for Boden I couldn't find anything! I really wanted one that was like Rowan's and I knew that this was a common material in Okinawa. I decided to just buy the materials and try my hand at basketweaving. It took a couple of nights while watching Gilmore Girls after the kids went to bed, but I figured it out by looking at Rowan's and patterning it after that. I was SO happy with how it turned out. I kind of want to make a bigger one for Grant and I to have now too :)
