Sekempul waterfall

One of the highlights of our trip was definitely our hike to Sekempul waterfall. When we got dropped off there were a few people offering to be our guides. I had read that it wasn't necessary, but most people that had paid for a guide said they thought it was worth it. I definitely fall into this group. We had a really nice 20-year-old guy who lived right near the falls, and for about $25 he guided us for hours to several different falls, told us about what we were seeing, etc. It was so much fun! It started with a walk through some beautiful jungle...
And after not very long...THIS is what our view looked like!
It seriously looks fake! There were rice terraces with palm trees, jungle everywhere and waterfalls all over the place! Simply breathtaking.
First of many photo stops! These guys were in good spirits but definitely did not pull their weight when it came to hiking :) I carried Rowan on my back in the ergo pretty much the entire way and Joey was carried by Dom and our guide. Luckily they're cute :)

One really fun part of this hike was crossing the river in a few places. It felt great! We were lucky because it didn't rain so the river wasn't too high. I had seen pics of people crossing with it waist deep.
And before we knew it...we had made it to the base of our first waterfall!
(why do they always look smaller in pictures :)
And since the crazy spray of the waterfall had already gotten us pretty much completely wet, we decided to seize the moment and jump in :) We didn't stand all of the way underneath because it was already crazy hard.
After the first set of falls, we headed over to the next ones. These were equally magnificent!
As we were walking back up to the top, Rowan says, "Look, a monkey!" He points into the trees and sure enough there are monkeys swinging from trees just ahead of us. He is seriously so observant and sees so many things that we wouldn't otherwise have noticed.
Near the top there was this cute little swing overlooking a valley full of coconut trees and beautiful green. We had perfect weather. It started raining right as we got back in the car. So lucky!
This was truly one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen and such a fun experience!
