Father Son Campout

Friday night was the Father Son campout, the first one that Grant has attended as a dad! We decided to let him just take Rowan (since it would probably be more fun for both of them...) and they wanted to take the little blue truck that can't fit 2 carseats (well played getting that as your car Grant ;)
So, as soon as Grant got home, they headed out. They grabbed dinner at Rubios and then made their way to the campsite which was about 25 mins from our house.
They played on the swings and explored the area for awhile before it got dark. I was excited for both of them to have this adventure. And I had a great evening with my parents and Boden (who was very well behaved at dinner and we had fun together after at home).
When they came home the next morning I asked Rowan what his favorite thing was, to which he exclaimed "burning marshmallows!" He cooked and ate a few nicely toasted ones, and then a few kids dropped theirs and they realized that the fireball of sugar was a pretty cool thing :) Boys!
Rowan hadn't taken a nap that day (he usually still takes naps about half the days of the week), so I thought he'd go to bed really easily..and he did! However it wasn't until 10:45 pm! He must have been SO exhausted. We put a twin air mattress and sleeping bags in the back of the truck and put the camper back on and they had the perfect little cozy spot to sleep :)
The next morning they had an easy "continental breakfast" and then were home by 10:30ish. It was definitely a short and sweet little campout, but the perfect little one on one time for these guys. I was so happy they got to go. And Boden helped me with a little birthday party prep for their party that was Saturday afternoon!
An elephant and some food for the elephant that Rowan constructed out of things he found in the dirt
I think Boden did actually miss his brother and asked where he was a few times, but there was no complaining when he got to lick everything we used to make the frosting and frost the cupcakes for the party :)
Having not had brothers growing up, I didn't really realize what a tradition this campout is. But now that I'm a boy mom through and through, I see a few girls night out or mom's night alone in my future :)
