Grant and Rowan got home from the father son campout on Saturday morning around 10...I had just run to Target with my mom to grab a few last things for the party and then the kids went out back to play with some new frisbees we got. Rowan has quite the arm on him and after a couple throws, threw it up on top of the pergola. Instead of a safe and logical way to get it down, the crazy boys decided on what seemed (to them) like a good idea.
Rowan stood on top of Grant's shoulders while Grant braced himself on the house. Just before he reached the frisbee, Rowan got scared and instead of slowly getting down, kind of jumped/fell and Grant tried to catch him, and in the process they both fell over, knocked over a few tables and Rowan hit his forehead on the small brass table and split his eyebrow right open :(
I looked out when I heard the commotion and then screaming, and then saw blood dripping from his head. We quickly came and laid him down on the counter, where he settled down really quickly but almost looked like he was in a state of shock. We got the bleeding to stop but it just looked too wide and deep for us to try to take care of by ourselves (and it was on his face), so we decided a visit to the ER was on the agenda for this Saturday morning (5 hours before the party started!)
We were 2 days shy of 4 years with a boy, so I feel like we did pretty well that this was our first ER visit. And honestly, I was a little surprised it wasn't Boden who ended up there first with his craziness. I was so sad that I wasn't able to go with him, but I needed to finish the birthday prep so Grant and Rowan continued their father son bonding and headed down to Balboa. Grant put my workout headband on him to hold the paper towel in place. The doc said it was the first time she'd seen that and loved it, haha.
I made Grant send me lots of updates from the ER (I'm sure my questioning was annoying but I wanted to be involved). I was hoping that they would glue it instead of stitches but in the end, after it was cleaned out, etc they decided it was just a little too deep and gaping to just glue it. So, in his last few days of being 3, Rowan got 3 stitches :) These pics from the hospital made me feel a little better.
I was proud of my little guy for his bravery. He does NOT like shots, etc and overall did a great job. They made it home about 1.5 hours before party time :)
