Rowan
loves Easter and when asked why, egg hunts (and eating candy) top the
list. When he found out Easter was nearing, he was so excited about the
egg hunt because it meant we got to go to the beach. When I clued him
into the fact that not all egg hunts happen on the beach, he was pretty
sad about it (and I understood the devastation. I would be pretty sad if
I thought we were going to do something at my favorite place and then
found out it wasn't happening there.) So...I found the closest thing we
have to a beach (that wasn't too far away) and we headed to Sandy Point
on the Chesapeake Bay and had a small family egg hunt, and it was
perfect!
We
have done this for 4 years straight and have never had an egg stolen by
someone not in our group (even last year at Moonlight beach where it
was pretty populated). This time, we were essentially the only ones on
teh beach except for people fishing, until one other family came, and
their little girl saw the eggs and exclaimed that the Easter bunny had
been there. Either the parents were entirely clueless to their
surroundings (I was still walking around hiding eggs) or didn't care,
but I just let it go and let her have the 3 eggs she "stole". :)
It
was not a warm beach excursion, there was still snow in the parking
lot, but nonetheless, it still was sandy and there was water and it felt
like a beach.
The
best part was how excited the kids were. They continued to talk about
the egg hunt on the beach and I know it was a special day for them. Look
at those smiles!
And
Dylan got his first real chance to play in the sand...and even though
he hasn't grown up a beach baby like his brothers, he took right to it.
He loved feeling it in his hands and then eating it of course.
And it was a great day for a kite! Not too windy to be extra cold but enough wind to keep the kite up.
I hope that we can forever keep the beach egg hunt tradition alive!
