Dino-Mite Birthday Party

It has been really fun doing joint birthday parties for the boys and luckily this year they agreed on a theme, dinosaurs! These combined parties will be harder to do as they get older and have their own friends at school, etc. so I'm treasuring these moments and parties. We kept it relatively simple, but did some fun things. I wish we could have invited everyone, but tried to keep it small as to not be too overwhelming to me or the kids ;)
We had dino masks (all of which were herbivores which Rowan was initially a little upset about but got over it) and I made dino parties has by combining hats and crowns from Target :) And then of course some vinyl signs because they're always fun to make.
One of my favorite things were the cute shirts I ordered..Rowansaurus and Bodensaurus with a 5 and 3 on their backs. And I had a mamasaurus shirt :)
Scary birthday dinos!
And cute baby bro
Our first activity were these dino eggs. I had little plastic dinos that I covered in a mixture of baking soda and water and let them dry and harden for a couple of days. They chiseled at them with screw drivers and then I had vinegar in a spray bottle to bubble the paste off the toy at the end. It wasn't quite as hard to break them open as I hoped but it was still really fun and the kids thought it was cool!

We also did fossil prints in salt dough which they got to take home as part of their party favor...

And just before eating, I had printed these large dino placemats that could be colored in and put out some crayons. I could not believe how excited the kids were to color, it was awesome! They all sat there and didn't move for at lest 15 mins...it was perfect as we finished getting the food together.
For dinner we did a "tacosaurus bar" We had a fruit and veggie platter, cafe rio tortillas and their creamy dressing, pork and shrimp, homemade guacamole, corn dip, and all the other good taco fixings. It is now my go to dinner to feed a crowd. It was so delicious and easy! It was so great to have my parents here to help with everything as well!
I printed off little signs that said carnivore, herbivore and pescetarian to go with each food.
Herbivore Rowan. Like I said, all the masks I bought were herbivores, and apparently Rowan decided to stay in character for the party. So despite having shrimp, his very favorite food, he would not eat ANY of it, because he was a herbivore at this party. So he filled his plate with fruits and veggies and gobbled them up! So funny.
Our last game was pin the tail on the dinosaur. Rowan has only been to a handful of birthday parties, but pin the tail on the _____ has been a staple at most of them, so I think he felt like his party needed it. It actually turned out really fun and funny to watch them all try. We just used a coloring page and traced and cut out a bunch of the tails.

And then we had cake!!! I let them each pick what kind of cupcake they wanted. I like the combined party but am big about making sure we celebrate both of them so they each got to pick the cake and we sang happy birthday separately to each of them.
Boden wanted the vanilla oreo cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and sprinkles.
And Rowan wanted chocolate cupcakes with buttercream and crushed up oreos to look like dirt.
Happy Birthday to Rowan!
Happy birthday to Boden!
Let them eat cake!
Dylan got to chill with my parents most of the party which was also a huge help!
And the completed fossils at the end. I forgot to take a pic of the goody bags, but I found cool dino backpacks at Target in the dollar spot and filled with a few dino themed things and some eggs full of candy. Simple and fun.
The kids of course loved opening gifts. We are so grateful for so many fun and generous friends.
Happy birthday boys! Thanks for letting us celebrate you guys!
