A couple of months ago I saw that a friend from high school had posted on facebook, "a) does the south get winter weather,b) what do i bring to make my hair not puffy,
c) will my hair not be puffy because it is winter." I added my two cents to the comments and asked where she was traveling. She stated she had a few grad school interviews, one of which was in Lexington :) We had a long course of dialogue via facebook, which ended up in her staying with us for a few nights! (mind you, I am getting old enough that I had not seen her in 10 years!)
Upon arrival she was exhausted from flying and staying up all night studying for her interviews, so after a wonderful dinner at Saul Good she retired for the night. The next day we did a Jillian Michaels workout DVD, went for a little run and hung out for the morning before her interview.
She was busy with a 2 day interview and catching up on sleep, but we did a tiny bit of sight seeing... (on the way to the airport)
...and she shared some new foods with us (I cook with meat a lot I guess
since I was at a bit of a loss as to what to make for a vegatarian
dinner :)
I tried brussel sprouts for what I believe to be the first time in my life! I think they are SO cute and will definitely be trying them again, however, I need some potatoes or something to eat them with next time. I'm a decent vegetable eater, but I do better when I can combine with some other foods on my plate.
Since she shared a new food with me, I showed her the art of cream of wheat (not a new food, but a much more fun way to eat it!) I remember enjoying cream of wheat as a child for the mere fact that I could put sprinkles in it. Still my favorite way to eat it today :)
It was a lot of fun to catch up on events of the past 10 years as well as talk about what it was like in Davis "back in the day." :) Facebook has its really annoying features, but this was a time we both benefitted from the now publicly traded $100 billion dollar company. Thank you Facebook and good luck on the rest of your interviews Lauren! (PS-She already found out she got into the PhD program here-my first choice even though we won't even live here anymore!)
