Groundhog day...

Oh Groundhog day...such a random "holiday" and BORING movie.  I already have movie ADHD, so watching this one just about killed me. I honestly can't remember anything about it except for the repetition. However, with groundhog day this year, I thought about how my life is a little bit of that repetition. Blogs are usually reserved for "exciting" events in life, but since we are almost out of this phase of our lives, I thought I'd document a little bit about an average day in the life of a Lexington Layton.

-Alarm: 5:45 am
Although it has been an unseasonably warm winter, Grant and I decided we wanted to change up our workout routine a bit, so we started doing Jillian Michael's 30-day shred. It is easier to motivate myself to get out of bed knowing I don't have to go outside and get cold! A serious workout from the comfort of our living room...and it really works!
-I shower and blow-dry my hair while Grant showers.... and then he eats breakfast (usually cereal) whereas I prefer to eat my breakfast on the way to school (for some reason I feel like it will keep me full for longer if I can put it off until I'm actually en route to school). Recently my breakfast of choice has been mini bagels with pumpkin cream cheese. 7:20 leave for school.

-We drive our 6.5 miles to school and park in this garage...pretty close to our buildings, not a bad walk unless it's REALLY cold.
-Between 8:00-9:00 we both start class/clinic.
-This is the nursing student lounge where I spend most of my time between classes (eating lunch, studying, etc). The TV on the right of the picture usually has pertinent announcements, etc. but in this shot is has a southern Utah picture, thought that was a fun touch :)
-After my classes (which finish around 2:00)-I study material from the day with my "study group". This is a fast paced semester, so we have tried to stay on top of what we go over in class each day.  Grant has clinic until 5:00 most days, so I'll stay and study until he is done...
-When Grant is done with his patient, he will text that he is cleaning up, and I will walk across the bridge (pictured below), that connects our buildings...and meet him in the clinic to finish cleaning up.
-Then we walk back to the garage, get in the car and go home (most days). However, if we know we will have a late night on campus, we most often grab a chicken burrito bowl with chips and guac at Chipotle! yum. (This particular groundhog day, we stayed late to screen patients for boards-I helped with paperwork and checking health histories while Grant, Travis and Nate did x-rays and quick exams).
-Once we come home, we usually hang out on the couch for awhile, watch shows we have taped, etc. As of late, Grant has been obsessed with photography so will sit and take pictures of random boring stuff.
-10:00-10:30 pm- We head to bed, only to wake up and do it all over again the next day!
Despite the boring everyday routine, I really can't complain. I am so lucky to get to commute with Grant, see him at school, etc. This time of our lives is undoubtedly busy and crazy, but I really do love it! I can't even imagine what it's going to be like to grow up and have jobs...

  1. I love this! It's so nice that you get to commute together. I am also jealous that Grant works out with you in the morning. Try as I may, I can't convince Jason that workout DVDs can be fun. :(

  3. I hate that you hate Groundhog Day. It is one of my very favorites. I can quote the whole thing... 'sweet vermouth on the rocks with a twist please...' Seriously, it's awesome.

Anyway, I'm also obsessed with this post. I have a weird desire to be a fly on the walls of my friends... And you have just given me that. Thanks:)
