Welcome to the neighborhood

Now that we are somewhat settled, we have decided to get out and enjoy/get to know our new city. We have gone running each morning to both get in shape and figure out where things are. They are currently dredging the harbor so this morning they were out in full force pumping and moving sand around. Although it sort of ruined our view, it was kind of fun to watch. Luckily we live here, so a few days with an obstructed view is okay :)

Ever since we learned we were moving to San Diego, Mat and Jen (Grant's sister) have been equally, if not more, excited than us. They wanted to be our first visitors, so came up this week to hang out and hang out before Grant starts work.

After our run, we came home, showered and headed out for a walk and to go to the Farmer's Market, which is a year round weekly occurrence in Oceanside every Thursday. First we stopped by the Pier to watch some surfers.

 The market was awesome, I look forward to hopefully buying my produce for the week here. The prices were affordable, there are free samples of everything, and there are gorgeous affordable flowers, I loved it. Today we bought some 3 layer dip (feta, sun dried tomato and pesto), marinated artichoke hearts and fresh mozzarella balls with pita bread, it made for a delicious lunch!

We came home for lunch and then headed for a walk in the other direction to walk around the harbor. Grant enjoyed taking some pictures, we found some cute shops and enjoyed the beautiful day. It got sunny and warm around noon and was perfect!

We walked out on a rock jetty that went probably 1/4 mile into the ocean and snapped some cool shots.

 Looking back at shore, we had a cool view of our street...

 We made the short walk home and as we got to our street saw that it was somewhat flooded. We thought a pipe from the dredging had burst or something, but as we walked down farther, we found the source, a water main break right behind our complex!

The burst of water was constant for about an hour (obviously causing some serious flooding). The mountain it was shooting out of continued to fall down also.

 The little street that leads to our parking lot was feet deep of water and mud. We were very fortunate that the water did not affect any of the units...

However, we can't get our car out of the garage (because there is still a foot of mud and water in the bottom of the garage. Luckily we park upstairs!

 After being home for a bit, they decided to evacuate our building (really for no reason, but they were probably getting sick of us watching them work :) We used this as an excuse to check out the Sunset Market (similar to Farmer's Market but much bigger!) There was still some delicious produce, etc. but there were food vendors from all over. We shared a delicious gyro!

 After dinner, we walked back past the pier, snapped a few more shots, and walked home on the sand (it is still amazing that I can walk HOME on the sand!)

 We checked on the progress of the clean up...

 ...and Grant made friends with everyone in the complex and some city workers. He loved watching the machinery clear the dirt, etc. I felt bad for people who arrived today to enjoy their long weekend at the beach! I have been impressed with the city thus far though. They are tirelessly working out there to get our water repaired and turned back on, and they brought gallons of water around to residents.  Hoping they get the garage cleaned out soon because until then we will be walking or taking the train anywhere we want to go :)
