Since getting our bikes last week (and now finally having purchased padded butt shorts-a necessity), we have been trying to put them to good use! Our first ride was along the San Luis Rey bike trail, a few days later we took an evening ride along the coast to south Carlsbad and back (it was a gorgeous day) and then Saturday we decided to do something a little longer. The Skanchy's (our friends from dental school and our ward in Kentucky) were vacationing in Pacific Beach with family, and we couldn't let them be so close without seeing them, so Saturday morning we drove with our bikes down to PB and took off for a ride. We took the camera with our little maneuverable tripod (that you can wrap around poles, set up anywhere, etc) and captured a few pictures throughout our ride.
Here is a map of where we rode...
After riding down the coast, through PB, Mission Beach, Ocean Beach and through Point Loma, here we are along the harbor, near the airport.
After riding through Balboa Park, on the bridge headed back to downtown.
View from the bridge of the 163...love this freeway into downtown. Feels like a Kentucky freeway with all the green, but a bunch of eucalyptus instead.
The beginning of some steep downhill (yeah! going up into the park was some hard climbing)...love that we captured a plane getting ready to land in the background.
Pacific Beach (our final destination)
Once getting back, we threw our bikes in the car and headed to the beach with Tony and Lyndsey. We were lame and didn't get a picture with them, but it was so fun to see them! We had a great self guided bike tour of the coast, downtown, and Balboa Park and are excited for our next bike adventure.

I've never wanted to ride a bike more than right now. I need better scenery though. : (
