With the slowdown in visitors, it appears that my blog has taken a hit as well. It isn't that we aren't still LOVING living here and aren't enjoying the beach, etc. but we seem to have finally situated ourselves into more of a routine and normal life. We are still enjoying not having homework/studying and getting to really enjoy the evenings and weekends together. Two weekend ago was "Fleet Week" in San Diego, which in turn meant there was a giant car show and race on Coronado. They shut down a large portion of the air runways on base, set up a race course and people from all over came out.
The races were in the morning and were broken up into 9 categories depending on the age of the car and size of the engine. There were some fun cars, some of them impressively quick. We were sitting by a double corner so we didn't see the full speed, but got to see the maneuverability (which I think was a little more fun) and saw a couple people spin out.

People watching a events like this is always entertaining as well. This guy was riding wheelies all over the place...and the couple in the orange looked as if they just escaped from a "fashionable" prison. (lower right) The Shelby race group, one of Grant's favorites.
And this group had some cute little cars like the Mini Cooper and the Mimi Marcos. From the top of the stands where we were sitting, you could look back on the car show portion of the event.
After the set of morning races were complete, they had Navy Seals jump from planes above, and also had a few planes fly by. I love this photo with the Seal parachute, huge American flag and the planes up above.
The rest of the afternoon we walked around the car show portion of the event. Grant has been going crazy with car shows since we've been down here (the selection is much better than in was in KY), but after going to this one I said we could be done for a little while since it was probably the best we would see in a long time. There was an incredible turnout of Cobras (what will most likely be Grant's first project), so he "makes" me walk through them and tell him what I like and don't like about different ones.
Panteras were also out in full force. This is a car that I do not like at all, but Grant is in love with. Luckily we both like the Cobra so we'll start there and see what happens. I did like the array of colors these were in though.
And finally when we were done with the old cars, we walked through some booths with dealers showing off their new stuff. Checking out the 4-seater convertible mini. It was pretty cute, but I think I'll keep my convertible for now!
Finally, we headed over to the test drive portion and Grant got to drive this miata around a course that Mazda had set up. He had it going pretty good, smoke on the tires, etc (of course I didn't capture that on camera), but this is him driving the course. They told him that he was one of only 7 people all day who "correctly" drove the course.
All in all it was a really long day of cars, but luckily it was a good show, we got in free (a $50 value) because of the military, and we got to spend a beautiful day together on Coronado.
