The nursery :)

I am officially "full term" today. I sort of hate that they call 37 weeks full term because it makes you feel like you could/should really have the baby any time, when it reality I probably have a good 3 weeks left :) However, it is comforting to know that he would be pretty successful in outside life at this point in time! In honor of being full term, I spent much of the day "nesting" (cleaning the entire house including random stuff like scrubbing marks off walls, etc), making sure our temporary nursery is all ready, and packing my hospital bag (which I really had no idea what to put in it, but people kept asking if I was packed so figured I'd throw something together!)
Because we will only be here for 2 months and will have visitors in that time, I decided to leave the guest room alone, and just turn a corner of our upstairs common area into the nursery. We obviously have so much more set up that we really need for 2 months, but since I didn't get to do the full extent of a nursery that I wanted, I decided I would at least put this much together...and I love it!
Crib: Black Friday sale at Pottery Barn Kids (Fillmore fixed gate crib). I loved this crib the first time I saw it and am extremely happy with the purchase. It even has clear plastic strips on either side so when he starts gnawing on wood, the crib will be protected :)
Dresser: Ikea. I love this grey brown color and think I can make it work with whatever colors I choose in the future. It's a great size too, lots of storage but small enough that it should still fit in any room (even when we move to a small Japanese home).
Glider: Crate and Barrel (outlet). After months of deliberation about getting a glider/rocker, etc. I decided I could live without one. Moths ago, we almost ordered the Crate and Barrel rocker but couldn't quite commit to the money, especially not knowing our living arrangements after we move, etc. So, a couple weeks ago, Grant came home from work and I said, "I think I can do without a glider." We then proceeded to the outlets to buy a few things we needed. When we walked into the CB outlet, there was the exact chair we almost bought months ago, for 40% off!! At that price I couldn't resist, especially since it doesn't look like a nursery chair and I can use it anywhere I want/need in the future!
Got this cute little sign...it matched our colors and "theme". Let's hope our little guy takes this saying to heart and is chill like his dad.
Being pregnant has given me a renewed interest in sewing. I finally feel fairly confident in using my sewing machine that I got for Christmas like 4 years ago! Here are a few of my creations...appliqued burp cloths, a changing pad with a coral pattern on the back (which I LOVE), and some nursing covers. Somehow these homemade items make barf and poop seem a bit cuter :)

Blankets and burp cloths...

Mr. Cordy Roy hanging out in the little Ikea Poang chair. I'm already excited to see him cuddling up in this chair :)
Got these fun boxes and diaper caddy at PBK. I love them.
 Starting our children's library...
Because we will be living in another country, and I don't totally know what to expect, I decided to try to get most of what we would need for him for at least the first year. I know that people in Okinawa have babies, and they wear clothes, and it would be totally fine if I didn't have anything before going over there, but I've been told that the selection is not as good and things are more expensive, so I decided to at least buy most of what I thought we would want before we go.
The dresser is organized into ages. Top drawer left is newborn, right 0-3 months.
Second drawer, left 3-6 months, right 6-12 months.
Bottom drawer is somewhat miscellaneous. Extra crib sheets, towels, his Christmas stocking :) and 12mo+ clothes. I know it's silly given that this is all getting packed up in a couple of months, but it was fun to do and I enjoy the organization and seeing what I have.
The last little addition to the nursery is this awesome Vespa rocker that Grant's dad made for us! I saw the idea on Pinterest awhile back and thought it would be so fun for him to have a little rocker that matched our yellow Vespa. Ron created the pattern and built the entire thing from scratch. I know it was no easy feat, but it turned out so perfectly and I know he's going to love it!

Today we also installed the car seat into the car. My pregnancy app told me it was time to do it, so I did (again, I know I will probably be driving around with an empty carseat for weeks, but oh well! I'm ready when we need it).
Finally relaxing after a morning of hard core cleaning. Opening up that pelvis, come on little guy!

  1. LOVE the Vespa rocker. He really did a fabulous job.

You'll be glad to have the clothes to take overseas because even though kids in other countries do wear clothes, when you are new some place and don't know where to go, it is nice to already have what you need. You can supplement as needed once you learn your way around. (And yes, things are more expensive in Japan, so you are doubly smart.)

  3. I LOVE your nursery! It is adorable. And now is the perfect time to install that carseat because you never know when and you don't want to try to do it when it is time to bring baby home (which happened to me with #3). I am so excited for you and can't wait to see pictures when he arrives.
