First beach day

When we found out we were coming to Okinawa, we were assigned a sponsor. He is a dentist that has been here for a year now and was helpful in answering random questions before we arrived and is "our person" here on the island. He picked us up from the hospital, drives us everywhere, shows us the ropes, etc. It was so nice to arrive here feeling like we already sort of knew someone. Adam and his wife Renee have been so helpful in making us feel at home on island. They've cooked us meals, Renee takes me out on errands daily so I don't go crazy sitting in the hotel with Rowan all day, etc. On Sunday, we went to their house for dinner and enjoyed some time at their beach right before.
Our first experience on an Okinawa beach...

Grant did a little bit of quick snorkeling. It wasn't the greatest place for snorkeling but it gave him a chance to try out the underwater camera again.

Rowan and I had a great time just sitting in the water. It's so different from our Oceanside beach. There are virtually no waves (which is kind of sad but nice with a baby), it is SO warm (not even a tiny bit cold even when first getting in), and so clear!
Gorgeous little cove
Loved the greenery on the beach. It also provided some great shade (which in California I would not want on the beach) which was so nice, especially with Rowan. Didn't have to worry about keeping him under an umbrella, etc.
This is what Rowan and I do all day hanging out in the hotel without a car... lots of lounging around (since it's also too hot and humid to enjoy being outside right now). So grateful Renee takes us out to both get us familiar with the area but to also keep me from going too crazy!
And even on the east side of the island, we have pretty awesome sunsets. I told Grant last night that I feel like the sky here is bigger. I know that sounds so weird and really doesn't make sense, but I feel like everywhere I am, I can see so far. The air is clear and you can see forever!
Big beautiful puffy white clouds in the day turn into stretched out pink clouds at sunset. I love it!

  2. I know I'm going to enjoy reading about your time in Okinawa. Clean air in Asia? I can already tell your experience is going to be completely different from mine. I'm a little bit jealous.
