Three beautiful months

Through the craziness of moving across the world's largest ocean, I haven't done a Rowan blog post in quite some time. He has been on this wild adventure with us and has been such a trooper. I could not have asked for him to be a better baby, I am so grateful. So...in an effort to make up for the lack of posts dedicated to my favorite baby in the world, here is a photo overload for your viewing enjoyment :)
I love that I have a phone that takes great pictures, but I hate that it prevents me from getting the real camera out more often (which definitely takes better pictures). My goal, once we get our house put together and settled into somewhat of a routine, is to learn how to better use our DSLR and take the pics this cute face deserves. I get sad when I think about the fact that I'm not capturing every moment, but then I hate "wasting" moments by trying to get the perfect picture and not just enjoying it. Like all parts of life, it's a balance that I will hopefully eventually learn.
These are a collection of photos over the last month, it's crazy to see how much he's already grown!
Our first Sunday here, in true island style, he wore shorts to church. But because I can, he also wore the cutest shoes ever! (thanks so Aunt Holly). Baby Sperrys...Totally ridiculous? Yes. Totally adorable? Absolutely! I love them on him :)
I posted this picture on Facebook a couple of weeks ago and got some "hate" comments based on my caption that he slept 9-10 hours and waited for me to wake up and greeted me with this smile. I KNOW that this is not the norm, that I am incredibly lucky and I hate that all babies can't be like this. Lack of sleep is what I feared most about motherhood (in the beginning-I'm sure I'll have a whole host of new worries as time goes on). I do not function well when I'm tired, and I am so grateful that for the most part he has been a terrific sleeper. This may not last forever, it may be a blessing that I needed to get through this big move, etc. but I do not take it for granted and am so grateful that I have been able to deal with the hard moments because I have rest.
Happy baby during tummy time. He doesn't love or hate tummy time, it's something he tolerates. I am not great about doing it with him, but when I do, he's happy and works for a few minutes, then decides he doesn't like it after awhile.
We had a stormy day a few days ago, and from inside it looked cold, which made me decide he needed to wear his Guatemala slippers and cuddle with me in bed all day :) However, upon opening the front door, I soon realized it was all an illusion and it was as hot and humid as ever outside. Luckily, we have good A/C and dehumidifier which allowed us to pretend it was a cold and stormy day...not just stormy :)
This lip gets me every time. This day he continued to "practice" it, enough for me to grab my phone and get a shot :) So so so cute!
If I had to pick one character flaw that this perfect baby possesses, it would be his inability to be happy in his carseat. I don't know why or when exactly it started but he screams at the top of his lungs in the car and is almost as bad in the stroller. So...I now try to plan all of my errands and workouts during nap time so he will sleep in the car (with fingers crossed he doesn't wake up). Generally if we get on the expressway (the only road you can drive over 60 kilometers per hour-slow!) he will calm down and fall asleep. Unfortunately, it is a toll road and not always feasible for where we are going. I'm hoping this is a stage he will grow out of quickly :)
I caught him looking almost content here...saying "what am I doing in this thing, you know I hate it!"
I was getting to the point where I was a little worried he was never going to roll over, because I felt like he never showed interest. He was totally content lying on his back and when he would get mad on his belly, never made any attempt to flip over. However, yesterday, every time I would put him on his back, he'd roll over to his side and kick his legs. He was so close but never quite made it over. This morning, I got him out of bed, laid him next to me on my bed, and in one kick, flipped right over onto his tummy :) Good work buddy! Then, he got mad because he was on his belly and didn't know what to do about it. He hasn't even rolled over onto his side again today. I guess he realized rolling over wasn't as cool as he thought!
Happy 3 months to my Mr. Little Buddy! Motherhood is an adventure and I feel so privileged that this little boy is letting me learn on him :)
I love you Rowan!

  1. I hope you don't think I actually "hate" you and your child! I have learned that most kids sleep better than mine so I've just accepted it. I am glad he's being such a good baby. Moving to Japan I'm sure is hard enough. You definitely deserve to have a good baby for that!

  3. I seriously think he is the cutest baby ever! And the fact that he sleeps so well is wonderful and due in part to you being such a great mom. What an amazing journey!

  5. He is sooo adorable Taryn! I love all the pictures you are posting and am looking forward to reading about all the upcoming adventures you guys will have there! And WAY TO GO ROWAN with the sleeping. Jacob was and still is a great sleeper and Joel is turning out to be the same thus far...crossing my fingers that it continues too! :)
