Welcome to the Roarin' 20s

We've known about the 101st Dental Corp birthday ball for several months now. Our sponsor told us that it was "strongly encouraged" (read mandatory) and the fact that we would have just arrived on island and had a newborn baby was not reason enough to skip it. It was originally scheduled for August 10th, so I was SO glad it was at least switched to a few weeks later. I was nervous about finding someone to watch Rowan, etc. When I heard that it was a 1920s theme, I was not super excited to have to find an outfit, that wasn't a teeny tiny fringy flapper outfit. I ordered some t strap shoes and a dress (which arrived a few days before we moved and was NOT cute). I had to wear a dress I already had, but realized that as long as I wore a 20s headband, I would look enough the part. In the end, despite my initial bad attitude, it was pretty fun to dress up a little.

Brooke (who is finally here, yay!) came over after some morning shopping and got ready and went with us. Loved having someone do my makeup while I sat and nursed Rowan since we were running into a time crunch :)
I was obviously the most "stressed" about who I was going to leave Rowan with. Luckily, we have a really cute neighbor, Alexa, who is newly married, loves kids and I felt really good and comfortable leaving him with her for a few hours. Her husband is away at training so she was happy to have the company. It was our first night out without him and I have to say I thought we all handled it great. Rowan was happy and slept well for her and I was not preoccupied or worried about him. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening. We picked up our new car the day before and we took the new "date car". It was a fun little ride :)

Beautiful view of the ocean (too bright to see it) and city. The party was at the Butler O Club.
Before we left, Grant was watching a YouTube video about how to tie a bowtie while TJ texted him asking if he knew how since neither Steve or him were being successful :) Who knew it would take him as long me to get ready ;) It was definitely more complex than we had anticipated! They figured it out and looked great though! We bought Grant's tie to match the dress I had ordered...unfortunately the dress wasn't as awesome as the tie!
(TJ, Breanna, us, Marianna, Steve)- TJ works with Grant and they live just a few doors down-so fun to have great neighbors!
The room was decorated beautifully and I was not excited about the assigned seating, but it actually turned out pretty fun to get to know some other dentists who were also new to the island.

The food was some of the best I've had at an event like this. It was half the price as last year and the food was definitely better and more abundant.
 Birthday cake!
For entertainment, they provided everyone with fake money when we walked in that we could turn in for chips and play some games. I was hoarding the chips...
Fun at the craps table
Wish we could have cashed them in for real money!
And when it was time to leave, we blew it all in one place!
The end of a fun night in Okinawa...
Learning about 20s history- Prohibition :)
Long night in new shoes-got some nasty blisters but it was worth it for my authentic 20s T-strap shoes :)
And Grant performing dental work on the tortoise outside :)
Glad our first night with a babysitter went well and it was fun to get out with Grant and some friends!
