Planning a big trip (especially in a foreign country) has always seemed like an intimidating task. However, while we live in Asia, we decided to need to take full advantage and do some traveling. So, we picked our destination, Thailand (a place I have wanted to go for years) and started planning. There weren't a lot of good flight options. Living on an island makes flying a little more difficult because there isn't much direct out of here. So, even though Thailand isn't terribly far away, it took 3 flights to get there (Okinawa-Tokyo-Bangkok-Phuket). We opted for a red eye knowing that it would either be a terrible decision or a fantastic one, and it turned out great!
Japan Airlines wins the prize for best kid's toy handout. They had airplane and truck stickers with a background to put them on, dream come true for our little man. We got lucky with no one next to us for one leg. Even though Rowan did really well on all of the flights, he's just getting to be a big kid to have on your lap in 2 small airplane seats for that long!
We arrived in Phuket around 10am, and a "limo" service from the hotel pick us up and were greeted at the hotel with the most delicious hot pink limeade, cold towels and friendly staff, all of whom called Rowan "boy" :) The resort was gorgeous, this was the check-in area.
When we booked our stay, we wanted to spoil ourselves a little bit, but didn't want to break the bank, so decided to book a cheaper room for the first 2 nights and then a nicer room for the last 3 nights. When we stepped into our first room, we were so excited to see how nice the "cheapest" room at the hotel was and thought we would be happy just staying there the entire stay!
We got settled, enjoyed some delicious lunch and then Rowan passed out for a few hours (and I think we did too)...I forgot to mention that we were also all sick with a really bad cold so already hadn't slept well in several nights and the flight, etc had totally worn us out. Luckily after about the second day, we were feeling much better.
We all woke up in terrific moods and were ready to take on the evening! We went out and watched the fire dance they performed in the infinity pool before heading to dinner. Rowan decided he wanted to dance along to the drums (and of course play in the rocks surrounding it).
And then we headed to the pool for some sunset swimming. We have easier access to the beach than the pool at home, so Rowan really hasn't had a lot of pool time in his life. This vacation made us realize just how much he loves it...and how worn out it makes him. He took some really good naps this week :)
Seriously gorgeous
After a quick bite to eat for dinner, Rowan passed out on our way back to the room (this seems to be his theme on our first night of vacation :)
This half day alone made us SO excited for the rest of our stay!

That sunset is UNREAL!
