Kodomo no Hi (Children's Day) is a day set aside in Japan, to celebrate children's personalities and happiness. It is a part of Golden Week (a crazy holiday week here!) Their are carp streamers hanging over many of the rivers on island which are fun to look at, not to mention the fact that "fish" is one of Rowan's favorite words :) So, when Grant got home yesterday we headed over to check some out.
Rowan cuddles with everything these days and makes the cutest "ahhh" sound. He also finds the smallest of ANYTHING and calls it "baby". So he cuddled with this baby fish for a minute :)
37 weeks! (pretty sure he's as big as Rowan was at 40 weeks!) I have an appointment tomorrow, but I don't feel like he's planning to come any time soon (which in some ways I'm really ok with). I'm not sure I'm ready!
Is this enough of a smile mom? I really just want the fruit snacks you promised me :)
The carp streamers are called Koinoborii and are flown in honor of Children's Day from late April through early May in hope the children will grow up healthy and strong like wild carp. The carp sympbolize courage and strength because of its ability to swim up a waterfall.
The fences surrounding the river had fish artwork from several local schools which was fun to look at too! It was very festive and fun to walk around and enjoy a "new" holiday!
So now May 5 means carp streamers and Mexican food (cinco de Mayo). I wonder what other new traditions we can adopt for this day :)
