Holidays
are always a little strange over here given that we celebrate them a day
before everyone back in the states. When I'm posting pics of our
festivities, they haven't even begun for most of our family and friends.
It is also interesting to celebrate a holiday that doesn't truly exist
in the country where we live. But, with being in the military, obviously
4th of July is still a big deal.
It
has been nice having time off from work and not worrying about if I
have to work on a holiday. I hate missing things (especially holidays)
so I like not having a schedule to look at. This year we started the day
off with a pancake breakfast at church to support the Boy Scouts, and
then headed to the Comprehensive Park water park/pool with the
Remedios'. Rowan is always SO excited to play with "JOEY!" There was a
lot of shade at the complex which was nice, but none right next to the
pools. We didn't bring a stroller (we left in a hurry and weren't really
thinking), so Boden fit in the bottom compartment while Finn slept in
the stroller part. Worked out pretty well for a shady nap at the pool :)
It
is so fun to see Rowan grow and learn new things. He is totally
obsessed with water...and really not scared at all (which is good and
bad). The toddler pool was awesome for him and he swam around like a
turtle forever. This lazy river was fun too and he spent some time
jumping off the side to me.
After
the pool, the boys took a nice good nap from playing hard all morning
and then we had a BBQ/beach party with friends in the afternoon/evening.
Brea asked me to bring a fruit pizza decorated like a flag...I love
fruit pizza, but hate our fruit situation here. Everything is so
expensive or nonexistent, etc. So, I had to use frozen fruit for
everything except the bananas but it still turned out great!
Rowan
devoured the watermelon (also a luxury here as it is about $15/melon
when you can find them). Nothing more American than eating watermelon
wearing a flag shirt with sweat and dirt on the face. So cute.
And then he shoved cake in his mouth for dinner. I'm pretty positive that watermelon and cake are all he ate all night ;)
Look
at that dirty face! Besides water, Rowan's favorite thing to play in is
dirt. And his favorite thing to play with is the Finlayson's big fire
truck. He is very possessive of it (even though it's not his) and could
play with it for hours.
After dinner we all headed down to the beach to cool off...
Boden took a good little nap, and then joined the party!

We finished the night with some fireworks and glowsticks (which Rowan took to bed with him that night!)
Grateful for our freedom and that we could celebrate together as a family. Happy 4th!
