The masked bandits
For over a week now, we have been hearing noises in the chimney. There is a small hole in the siding at the top of the chimney that we have not yet fixed so I assumed that a squirrel or something had gotten in and was annoyed but thought it would soon leave. The other night it was getting louder and I was annoyed that something was infringing on my personal space and right to peaceful enjoyment of my home so we decided to get it out of there. During this same week at about 3 am every morning we heard something running up and down the side of our house (it sounded like 100 squirrels going up and down for a couple minutes) and we called it the "squirrel olympics." Getting annoyed with this again the other night we looked outside and there were 2 HUGE raccoons on the patio. So, the next night when we went out to pull some siding off the house to get this creature out Grant was ready with his Louisville Slugger in hand (see 3 posts down to find out how to get your own :)
Once the siding was off and me making raccoon noises (which is a really weird noise but I did a good job mimicking them-I'm sure that's not really what brought them out) one finally emerged. There were 2 cute baby raccoons. Needless to say, we did not use the slugger.
A close up shot of the little guy.
....and the best news of all...the "squirrel Olympics" seem to have ended!

OH my gosh, I so want one. Raccoons are mean though. We have a similar story. When we lived at Nates parents we moved into the basement and every night we could hear something in the walls, it bothered me so bad that I would wake Nate up all the time because It was the wall where our heads were. We started setting traps and caught seriously like 10 mice, but we could still hear them, for almost a month. So we exterminated and then they were gone. I totally know that annoyance. However ours was fifty times smaller than yours, Im sure.
ReplyDeleteGrant looks vicious with that bat...I bet they were scared! When are you working nowadays??? I NEVER see you on IM!!! IM Life is a drag without your cherry soul. Talk to you later!!!
ReplyDeleteAwwww! Maybe they were traped! And the Mommy and Daddy raccoons were just trying to get them out! You totally saved them!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThats a cute little guy. What did you do with him? Did his parents come back to claim him?
ReplyDeleteThe parents came around that night and they were all gone in the morning and we haven't heard them around since. So we are hoping that we are done with raccoons forever.
