Thanksgiving 96

Four day weekends are one of the greatest parts of being stationed with the Marines here in Okinawa. We had AMAZING weather over Thanksgiving weekend.
On Friday morning, I went and got a pedicure with some girls...out with the peacock toes and in with the Christmas toes! I think a Cocok's pedicure is going to have to be at least an every other month ritual, I LOVE it!
Grant and Rowan spent some quality time together in the morning and then headed down to the seawall to meet us and hang out for the rest of the day!
There are signs like this to take pictures in all over the island. Rowan's endless need to suck on things made this photo perfect (although slightly disgusting :) Slurping the ramen!
After picking us up, we headed to Kami sushi for lunch, so far my favorite sushi restaurant on the island. Rowan is finally big enough to sit in a booster or high chair by himself which makes meals slightly easier since he loves to grab at everything!
Funny family photo :)
After lunch we did a little Christmas shopping and then bought our Christmas tree! We knew we wanted to do something island style and I didn't want a fake tree (I've always had a real one) and I especially didn't want to have to store a fake tree. So...we opted for the palm, and I LOVE it!
Our 2013 Christmas tree!
Saturday, the weather was better than I could have even asked for. It was that perfect temperature where you just feel nothing, not hot, not cold, just perfect. While Rowan and I were in California, Grant built this awesome kayak cart which makes taking it out about a million times easier. We were able to carry it, but being able to just load it up with all our stuff and wheel it down to the water was awesome. It worked even better than I had anticipated.

Rowan's first ride on the kayak
We put it in just in front of our house and then kayaked down to another little beach just up the coast. It was a perfect little ride. Grant had to do most of the rowing since it was a little bit difficult with Rowan in my lap, but I helped a little :) The water was SO clear and we saw a bunch of jumping fish. It was awesome!
After we finished kayaking, we decided to drive over to the west shore and check out a new beach and eat dinner. The drive over was awesome...there are trees blooming, it looked like spring!
Once we got to the beach, we just laid out, walked around and enjoyed some Trader Joe's treats that we brought back from the states :)

LOVE this picture (besides the creepy mustache which actually makes this picture both better and worse :)

While at the beach, we searched Okinawa Hai (no yelp over here) to find a new restaurant nearby. We decided on a burger place that had excellent reviews! When we walked in, we were pleasantly surprised as it had a fun laid back surfing atmosphere, and there was a group of Marines walking out who gave the cook a thumbs up and said, "Best burger ever!" We like when Americans are there and approve of the food, usually means it's going to be pretty good :)
We arrived just before sunset and had a little view but couldn't see it really well. We ordered and then walked over to a window to watch the sunset. Our waiter came over and said that we should go out to the beach to watch the sunset and our food would be ready in 10 minutes. Perfect! So...we headed down to the beach and enjoyed the gorgeous sunset.

And when we came back...our food was ready and waiting! One little thing about Japanese restaurants though...I HATE their ketchup. It is bland and tastes like gross tomato sauce. So, hilariously, I take a bottle of ketchup from home whenever we think we might end up somewhere that we'll want it. I was so glad we brought it this night because the burgers and fries were delicious! We would sneak squeezes of ketchup onto our plates when no one was looking :) I was impressed with the presentation of the ketchup though! (and the fact that they gave us a pink and blue cup for girl and boy respectively).
Thank you Cafe Captain Kangaroo for a delicious and fun place for dinner. We will definitely be back!
It was such a fun and perfect weekend...hated when Monday rolled around and Grant had to go back to work. I was also very grateful that we had made it home in time to spend this long weekend with Grant!
