Pigeon Forge

This weekend we decided to meet Tanya (Grant's cousin), her husband James and their cute daughter Taja Mya in Pigeon Forge, TN. It is pretty much a perfect middle meeting spot (about 3.5 hours for each of us). They are living in Charlotte, NC and we are obviously in Lexington. Taja Mya apparently HATES when anyone besides her parents hold her but Grant with his amazingness with kids somehow won her over as well. They were shocked. They could even leave the room and she wouldn't freak out. Looks like we're their new vacations friends!
We spent the morning at the outlets (of course my favorite part) and then we went and walked around Gatlinburg in the afternoon/evening and split a hotel room for the night. It was nice to get away for a little while, we had a good time.
Gatlinburg is definitely a weird little city, it was already all decorated for fall/Halloween and there was a Uinversity of Tennessee game yesterday so everyone was wearing bright orange throughout TN. We drove through Knoxville which seemed like a nice city on the river.
Grant apparently hasn't grown in awhile...still 5'7"
And on the way home today...a semi that we were contemplating hijacking. Just a thought...but I'm still recovering from my flu so I'm still not very hungry. Luckily!
Maybe someone won the "sour gummy worms for life" contest, or says Grant "Sour gummy worms for a year in Taryn's case."
And Grant decided that we needed to take the scenic route home which in turn led us to this toll free ferry that takes 3 cars at a time over the Kentucky river. It was started in 1785.
Our view from the Valley View Ferry. Sorta redneck but it got us where we needed to go...and they kept it well maintained with beautiful potted flowers along the sides. Very random.
Now we're back and home and the reality of school and work has sunk back in. At least Grant has new shoes to wear to school tomorrow :)

  1. Grant sure does have a way with kids...I guess they recognize one of their own! I remember him holding Sam when he was just a tiny little bean, just off the mish, when we got to hear about this cool girl named Taryn he was into...those were the days. We miss you!

  2. I just have to say sour gummy worms are my favorite. If I had to be on a desert island with only three things, sour gummy worms would be one of them! I LOVE THEM!!! My mouth is salivating way too much right now and it is not because of the applesauce I am currently eating :)

  4. Looks like you guys are having a great time. We visited those same spots 2 years ago and we had a great time. TN is an interesting place. You didn't go to Dollywood???? Unfortunately we did, but I must say the Smokey Mountains and the fall colors are amazing. We miss you here at GIP :)
