Sadly enough, I did not even realize it was Veteran's Day until the ladies on The View this morning alerted me of the fact. Grant no longer works at a bank (where they get holidays for EVERYTHING) which means that some of these holidays just fly by me without much thought, sometimes not even realizing the significance of the day. I thought I would take a moment to say thank you to all the veterans who have fought for the liberties which we enjoy today in our lives here in this wonderful country. Last week, while in DC, I visited several of the memorials. My favorite was probably Vietnam, as my uncle Paul, who I obviously never met, died in that war.
It is wonderful that they have memorials to remember all of the soldiers who have died for us in wars past. My heart goes out to all those, and the families of those, fighting in the war today too.
This is me, looking for my uncle's name in the book to find out where on the wall it was.

Finally we found it. Even though we knew, from the book, where his name was located, it still took awhile to find because of the volume of names. I was blown away by just how many names were on this wall, all brave people who died in the Vietnam War.

Paul Warren Rose. It was wonderful to see his name and honor what he did for our country. Thank you.

I hope we all can take a moment to remember those of have sacrificed so much so that we can enjoy this wonderful country which we are so fortunate to live in.
Lovely tribute. Go Veterans!
ReplyDeleteI've been having problems uploading my pics so hopefully I can get it together soon!
Amen-you couldn't have said it better.
ReplyDeleteI really liked the Vietnam Memorial also. That is impressive you actually found the name on the wall!
ReplyDeleteThe way our dads talk about Uncle Paul, I always wish we had been able to meet him! It's cool you got to see his name. Thanks for the post.
ReplyDeleteI have a picture of me doing the same thing in the same spot! It's just neat to see his name there. It makes me smile to think of him and Grandma reunited.
