Ice storm, a slippery morning.

We heard it on the news and knew it was coming, but here was our first ice storm while living in Lexington. Last year when we came to look at houses they had a very small one, but this was definitely more significant. This is what we woke up to this morning...

There is a layer of snow covered with an inch of ice everywhere. The roads were a bit slick this morning as you could imagine :) All of Fayette county schools were closed and Grant had a delayed start until 11 am this morning.

The trees covered in ice are the best and worse part. They look awesome (the picture does not do it justice) but large tree branches can get weighed down so much with ice that they will brake and obviously do a lot of damage. We're hoping that doesn't happen!
And now...I just have to pray that my flight out of here won't get cancelled in the morning! Wish me luck. Here I come mountains!

  1. Crazy! Did you have trouble scraping off the car? My first ice storm was in Michigan last year and I didn't leave the hotel for 3 days and even then I couldn't get the ice off the windows of my car. Good luck with your trip!

  2. Luckily we put a carport which has totally saved us from scraping. I am SO glad. A friend of ours was picking at his car door with a knife this morning though to try and get it open! It's not pretty out there.

  3. I was just going to ask when you fly out to Utah. Guess I know. How long are you staying there? I leave on Sunday afternoon and am sched to come back on the 7th but may stay longer. I too hope no flights get delayed, staying the airport with a baby would be a disaster!!!
