MM- My man.

Now that we have a house, and live in the same state as Grant's parents, they decided it was appropriate and convenient to give us Grant's "boxes". There were about 7 boxes full of stuff from Grant's birth, childhood, mission, etc. and we spent a good portion of the day yesterday going through them. Although these pictures don't represent my memories, I thought they were still appropriate for a Memory Monday post.
It was fun to see some pictures of Grant that I had never seen before and seeing items that reminded him of memories to tell me about. One of my favorites was a letter on Greenwood High School letterhead stating:

"Dear Mr. and Mrs. Layton,
Your son, Grant Layton, has been suspended from Greenwood High School for one day, 5/22/1995. The reason for his suspension was:
1. Fighting with Ryan Davis on the bus.
We solicit your complete cooperation in helping us to show Grant that he must live within the rules that govern our school.
Sincerely,
Bailey Norris
Assistant Principal"

What a rebel I married! But, if he's going to fight, at least he won :)
Note: As he was reading this post he shared some more info from his suspension day, he spent the entire day 4-wheeling in the mud, got stuck and his mom had to come help pull him out. I'm not sure when the schools will realize that telling a kid not to come to school is NOT punishment.

We were going through a pile of papers, throwing a good portion of it away, when I came to this and quickly dumped it in the "toss" pile. I figured it was a tag from a beach ball that happened to fall off in the box. Grant quickly pulled it out and said, "You didn't even look at that! I'm on it." So below is a picture of Grant modeling at the youthful age of 8. Pretty cute. And I'm proud to know that he was promoting a product used at the beach, one of my favorite places to hang out!

Next was a picture with a bunch of leaves that described Grant's personality at the time (according to him I presume). They are a little hard to see so I will list them here: "Grant, happy, messy, respectful, forgetful, nice, blue eyes, shy, short, small. " I would still agree with most of them but messy and shy have changed, and I am glad that he is neither of those now. I will forgive his occasional bowl left on the counter since it appears he has come along way since his childhood. And, if anyone knows Grant now...he is definitely not shy.
Finally this picture I just loved, because it is so cute, yet so devious. The caption says "You all know me as Grant Layton, but..." :) It was the cover to a folder but nothing was found within... PS- Who said school pictures aren't cute...this is one of the cutest I've seen in awhile :)Other fun things we found in the box included a million letters from his mission, his family was good at writing him and keeping him in the loop, along with a few girls, one of who sent a picture of her pet pig (and no, she wasn't even from Kentucky), some children's books, a cast from his broken leg from around the age of 1 (luckily it wasn't gross, I was a little scared to touch it at first, but it's still very clean). However, we did find a rice and bean turkey he made one Thanksgiving that had totally been eaten by a bunch of bugs, disgusting!

Well we managed to get everything he wanted to keep into 1 box and that seems like a much more manageable amount of storage.

  4. I've been trying to remember if I knew about the modeling. I sort of remember a conversation about a picture being taken, but I must not have heard it was really used. Very cute!!! The boxes of memories are fun to go through. I have all of my boxes too. :)
