For Grant's birthday (in August) my parents bought him a photography session at the San Diego Zoo. It allowed him to go in 2 hours before the zoo opened and there was a small group with a professional animal photographer. We signed him up for a session in November, but somehow there was some miscommunication and his class was cancelled (but we were not notified) so when he showed up his class was nowhere to be found, but there was a macro photography class that they let him join and then rescheduled his regular class for this month. Unfortunately, that class was pretty much confined to the bug house for the morning, so Grant came home with a card full of insects. This one (which Grant informed me is a girl) was kind of cool, but lots of them were just creepy :)
Luckily, we were able to reschedule and he had a great time there on Saturday morning. And lucky for us, the newest addition to the zoo, the baby panda, was out to play :) He got A LOT of super cute pics of him, but I tried to just pick a few.
Playful little guy...
Love this one...looks like he's just chillin and smiling for the camera
Cute white arctic fox
Baby Takin- the "Dr Seuss animal" (with horns like a wildebeest, a nose like a moose, a tail like a bear,
and a body like a bison).
Polar bear showing off his furry, tight a :)
For a body like this, eat your carrots (although I'm pretty positive polar bears don't have access to carrots in their natural habitat)
AMAZING stripes. Love how the colors of his mane follow the stripes up exactly.
Koala woke up long enough for Grant to snap this shot and then immediately fell back asleep...apparently they sleep for 22 hours a day! (lots of cuteness/beauty rest)
I am Lion, hear me roar!
Fun vegetation...
Pretty cat :)
Crazy big bird
Life is rough as a rhino...
Grant's friend the King Fisher...he looks a little angry
Currently obsessed with these flowers...see them everyday when I workout and can't get enough.
Well fed flamingos...looks like they are getting their fair share of shrimp...vibrant coral colored
Grant's lifelong dream is to be a zookeeper (possibly a retirement goal :) This was a fun little experience for him to combine two of his loves, animals and photography.

What a cool gift!! Great pictures, Grant!
