It has been an interesting experience working on the MICC (Mother-Infant Care Center), while pregnant. With Rowan's pregnancy, although I was a nurse and knew a little bit, I was completely ignorant compared to now (which I actually think was kind of nice). As my due date approaches, it has been interesting to take care of patients who are actually due after me but have complications, etc that have put them in the hospital already. At 30 weeks, I got to see a baby born who was due just 2 days before my baby, crazy experience.
I only officially have 2 weeks of work left (I decided to take off around 35 weeks so I could spend time with Rowan and get things done around the house) before baby comes. I'll be back at work delivering this baby before I know it :) Last week was my last scheduled day working with Nicole (we are due 3 days apart) and spent a good chunk of the beginning of our pregnancy on night shift ultrasounding each other on slow nights. It has been fun to have someone to share this experience with at work. So, on our last scheduled day together, our awesome co-workers decided to throw us a combined surprise shower (and it was totally a surprise until just minutes before it). The timing got a little thrown off when my patient ended up in a crash "code purple" c-section just before it was supposed to start, but this actually given them a good opportunity to set everything up without us being around :) I'm not a huge fan of being the center of attention, etc. so it was nice to share this experience with someone. We really were so spoiled with delicious food and way too generous of presents. Labor nurses know how to do it!
Some talented people made us diaper cakes!
And there were treats and lunch food to enjoy! People put some serious effort into the potluck portion. We had carnitas with all the burrito fixings, pulled pork and potato salad, chicken adobo, subway sandwiches, etc. It was the perfect lunch after a crazy morning!
Although I am thrilled to be able to stay home with my boys, I really am going to miss this job (especially the people!)
