The Atlantic

Growing up a California girl, I feel bad even admitting that I enjoy the Atlantic Ocean, but the simple fact is, I love the beach! I am sure this doesn't encompass ALL beaches, but for the most part, I love the sand, the water, the weather, I love it all! Grant and I both had 4 days off for the holiday weekend, so we decided to make the most of it, and since we are way too far from the Pacific, the Atlantic was the next best, and I have to admit, it's been pretty awesome. Grant has an aunt and uncle (thanks LaVar and Judy) who were kind enough to let us stay with them in Norfolk, in an amazing house, with an ocean view (can't get much better than that). There is an enormous Navy base here, so there is a good chance we could end up here for awhile, and it is one of our top picks.

One of the major differences between the Atlantic and Pacific includes: The temperature of the water. People here think the water is cold right now (since it's May), but we had no trouble at all getting in, the water was warmer than I've ever felt in California.
Here I am, drinking my Diet Cherry Coke (a staple at the beach), in my new cute sun dress, ready to head down to the water!
Grant playing our favorite beach game, SMASHBALL!! Love it! I watched for a few minutes while he played with his dad and uncle, then I jumped in and we got a good workout :)
All the sprinting around, diving in the water, getting stuck in the sand, etc. made us pretty dang sore, but it felt pretty good. We decided if we were going to give ourselves the weekend off from running that we would have to play hard, and we did. After we were done swimming and playing, we walked down the beach a bit to the heart of Virginia Beach, saw the cool statue, walked through the touristy shops, etc. Grant worn out and asleep on the beach balls :)After the beach, and dinner, we took a walk on the beach by LaVar and Judy's house. It is on the Chesapeake Bay, and is a beautiful beach with lots of sand, crabs, and a gorgeous sunset.
Grant holding a crab...he was a bit reluctant at the beginning, not wanting to get pinched, but he did it and the crab was pretty cool, popped his eyes out one at a time, etc.
And, sitting at the clubhouse of the neighborhood, getting the sand off our feet and heading back home.
Living in Kentucky doesn't sound glamorous, but I am SO thankful that we are only 8-1/2 hours from the coast, and a fun beach at that!

Next time you go try eating at that Catch 320 restaurant or whatever it is called-- remember, the one with the cool sign? I ate there with my parents out on the porch one day and it was awesome! I hope you guys move there and then I can come and visit you! :)
