Party boat!

Since Grant's summer is so short, we're trying to have some fun...since we have obviously been doing some work as well. Thanks Karrie and Al for making this trip happen! We've been talking about a trip like this for months, so I'm glad it wasn't all talk, we really did it :) We left yesterday afternoon around 3 and headed to Taylorsville Lake State Park and did some camping last night. The campground was really nice, mowed lawn, etc, but surrounded by trees, so it was really pretty!
The boys collecting wood for our fire.
And we sat in the back of the car watching :)
For dinner we had chili dogs and brats. Delicious, especially since we were starving after some fishing at the lake for an hour or so before.
Hanging out by the campfire. Grant made sure to keep it big the whole night. He wouldn't rest until ALL the wood was in the pit.
We had a good night sleeping in our tents. Didn't get a ton of rest since we were sleeping on the ground, but the weather was amazing. It got just a tad bit cold at night (which hasn't happened in over a month here so we were lucky) and it was sunny and warm today.

Grant got up earlier than everyone and took Ayda (Karrie and Al's German Shepard) to collect fire wood for our morning fire to cook breakfast sausages. Grant came back and I heard him talking to Al about a broken beer bottle out in the trees. I thought Ayda might have stepped on it, but I stuck my head out the tent to ask and realized that Grant was actually the one who had stepped on it. He brought back the bottle, check it out below.
It went all the way through his shoe (and these are pretty sturdy thick flip flops) and he went to pull it out and the shoe was stuck on his foot because this was almost an inch into his foot.
I came out and tried to clean it out a bit. It definitely went into the soft tissue, and I could see little balls of fat around the surface...yum. It did some good bleeding which was nice since we didn't have much to clean it out. Luckily Julia came to the rescue with a first aid kit and some cleansing antiseptic wipes. His left calf muscle is going to be huge since he's been walking around on the ball of his foot all day.
We rented a pontoon boat to do some fishing, laying out, swimming, etc out on the lake for the day. It was awesome. This picture summarizes much of our day...reading magazines and enjoying the sun.
The girls! (Julia, me, Kristen, and Karrie)
Enjoying some time on the water.
A few hours into the day our boat started having issues so we went back and switched it out for another one, but lucky for us they were out of the basic pontoon (the one we had and paid for) and got the deluxe (which they didn't have any of when we reserved ours). This boat had a cool deck on top that was great for laying out.
And equally as good for diving off of! Scott and I doing synchronized diving. (Note...I think I get style points for the pointed toes :)
Swimming. The water was REALLY nice...not even cold at all but still refreshing.
No one had much success fishing all day, they caught a few small ones, but even those were hard to come by. We decided to stop in one last spot before we were done for the day and there were TONS of fish. Grant caught probably 20 small blue gill, a few of them pretty decent sized, and then caught the biggest fish of the day, this bass.
And this little guy was my accomplishment for the day. (I cast 3 times and caught 2 fish...they were small, but it was my first time catching anything, ever.)
Such a fun night/day! Can't wait to do it again soon.

  1. Glad you had a great time! It looks like lots of fun and your dive was superb, all those lessons paid off. You looked great. Sorry that Grant was hurt, I hate littering, hope he is doing well. He did recently have a tetanus shot, didn't he?

  2. Wow, what an adventure. That's cool you got a free upgrade on the boat, too. I guess Grant just has a thing for sticking stuff in his legs. If it's not a hatchet, it's sharp glass I guess. Scary stuff. Hope it heals okay. Cool pictures!

  3. What a fun trip! The second boat with the deck looks like a ton of fun. It's great you have friends there to do things with. Hopefully Grant's foot heals fine. It looks so painful.
