Battle of Perryville

On Saturday we decided to take part in some Kentucky history and went to a reenactment of the Battle of Perryville, a famous Civil War battle, that took place in Perryville, a small town about an hour from here. Here we are waiting for the battle to begin!

Here is the Confererate army marching in to battle... it was hilarious to see how true to the time period these people looked...and you know that all they had to do to look the part was put on some different clothes. Their hair and facial hair are permanent fixtures. The size of the Confederate army proved strong...here are some of Union soldiers, dead on the battle field.
Shooting the cannon...
And then all of a sudden this group of men were "hit" by a cannon ball and simultaneously fell to the ground. Awesome acting :)
Posing with Ms. Confederacy 2008...ridiculous I know, but Grant insisted.
Standing on our chairs for a better view!
In front of the mass burial site for all the soldiers that died in this battle.Highlights video from the day, with some of the best commentary from a kid at the end.
He is obviously a cannon expert,"None of these are 12 pounders there huge, these are 6 pounders"
"There's never many union soldiers here...we're all confederate but surprisingly they pulled it off." This is true. It was about 4 to 1 Confederates to Union soldiers. He wants to help change the war by giving some great advice on the use of a calvary charge and bayonette charge since "they have lost barely any guys"
Maybe next year kid.
Overall it was an interesting experience...saw some funny people, learned a little more about history, and saw some beautiful scenery on our way there! Also a highlight...had some awesome cookies Rashelle made and ate Taco Bell for the first time in probably 4 years!

  1. Sounds like a fun time. It would have to be a strange experience. I can't imagine watching a battle reinactment. Good times.
