Need any work done?

Grant had a pleasant surprise this afternoon when he pulled up the clinic schedule and found out that he had a patient. He has only had 1 patient thus far (which was only a pre-admission screening) so today he looked and saw that he had a patient, and it was in the restorative section, not just the pre-admission section.

The patient's appointment was for suture removal from a previous surgery and to have a filling placed. So, he got to numb up the patient (shots are his favorite :), remove the sutures, and performed a class II MO (for you that don't speak dental..mesial-occlusal) composite restoration on tooth #5 (first premolar on the upper right side).

It was a huge success (even though he didn't have time to really prepare and practice) and it was reaffirmed to him that drilling and filling is the proper career choice :)
(Don't worry, I won't post about every filling Grant does...just his first :)

  2. That's crazy they let them do fillings in second year. Mark never had patients till 3rd year. I think in second year he may have assisted the 3rd and 4th years some and gave some shots, but never a filling. That's pretty cool that he gets to work on patients so soon! Glad he's enjoying it. :)

  3. It takes special people to be dentists and nurses. Who likes giving shots?? Disturbing. But I'm glad you guys are on my side.
Tell Grant we are saving our nasty teeth for him. We haven't been to the dentist in a while (!!!!)

  5. Congratulations Grant! How exciting! Giving injections were never my favorite though, I am glad you have an affinity for them. It is also fun to have someone to talk dental lingo with. Good job Taryn, now you know what it was like for Dad when I was in hygiene school. Keep up the good work you two!

  7. I can't believe he is doing work on real patients! I would be so scared to drill into someone's tooth or stick a needle in their mouth. Luckily there is something for everyone! I'm glad he liked it...some people get that far and pass out. :)
