Ring

I think I have finally figured out why guys have to buy girls diamond rings worth thousands of dollars and we in return only have to spend a couple hundred dollars on a good looking band. It is because boys cannot be trusted with jewelry. They didn't grow up wearing it and therefore have had much less practice in not losing it. Girls have been trained their entire lives, since the toddler days of dress up and fake jewelry, probably losing that 50 cent strand of pearls a time or 2, but by the time we are married and get a shiny expensive ring, we are ready to take care of it.

Like so many other guys I know, Grant unfortunately "lost" his ring at the gym a couple of months ago. I surprisingly wasn't upset, just a little sad, but was over it immediately. I felt bad because he knew exactly where it was, etc. but when he went back to get it, it was gone :(

Growing up my dad never wore a wedding ring, it never really fit right, etc. so it's not really out of the ordinary for me to see a married guy without a ring, so it didn't totally bother me that Grant didn't have his for awhile, but when a patient started seeming interested in him and then when he mentioned something about being married, she replied, "I didn't know you had a wife," I realized it was time for him to have a ring again! haha.

I was more than willing to buy him a new one, asked if he wanted one like his original, or something different, and to that he replied that he was going to make one. It is times like these when I realize Grant really was cut out for dentistry. He melted down some silver crowns that he had made, created a ring mold, and cast a brand new silver wedding ring.
A crown- like the ones he melted to make his ring :)
The mold. He used Al's ring (since they wear the same size ring) to make an impression and customized it from there. After our soccer game last week, Grant and I went to the lab for him to work on some final touches of polishing and sizing it. He forgot his glasses but found these awesome ones to wear instead!
And the final product! I need to get a pic of it on his hand, but for now these will do...

  8. Wow! The ring looks great. Smart man. If the dental thing doesn't work out, maybe jewelry might be a good gig.
