There are no pumpkin patches on Okinawa. I was a little devastated thinking about the fact that I wouldn't get to take any pics of Rowan in a pumpkin patch, nor would we probably be carving pumpkins (because they are $10 each and already rotting at the stores here). However, Brea and I were chatting one day and thought it seemed appropriate and awesome to carve pineapples! We were planning to also go pick our own at the "pineapple patch" but we ran out of time for that, so we picked some up at the road side market.
We started off the evening with a delicious dinner of mummy dogs and macaroni and cheese, out on our patio (our new favorite hangout now that it feels amazing outside!)

TJ cored all the pineapples and my kitchen now smells AMAZING! The process was a little stickier than pumpkins, but really not bad and again, smelled so dang good. We ate a lot of pineapple in the process too :)

Our 4 funny faces. We bought the darker pineapple at a different market and it was interesting to see how different the varieties were. Fun little variation
Rowan didn't have as much fun as us tonight but maybe he would have liked it better if we had let him gnaw on the core...maybe next year buddy :)
Happy almost Halloween! Crazy last year we announced our pregnancy on Halloween, and this year we are living in Japan with a 5 month old...amazing what can happen in a year :)
First, I have been thinking about this time a year ago when I got one of the best emails of my entire life letting me know I was going to be an aunt (and lucky me my nephew is the cutest baby ever!) Second, I wonder if you might be able to cheat and find a pumpkin patch that is still open (or at least still has pumpkins) when you get to Davis so you could take pictures of Rowan.
ReplyDeleteSuch a good idea. They look awesome!
ReplyDeleteWonderful how you embrace the area you live and adapt to it so well. Cute pineapples.
ReplyDeleteI wish your pictures had smell-o-vision. I'll bet it smelled awesome! What a fun idea. Perfect for an island Halloween.
