A week
before Christmas, Grant had a half day at work (which pretty much never
happens), so we seized the day and decided to go see a few things in DC.
We met him at work and then took the metro into the district. Our first
stop was We the Pizza for lunch. This has been on our list of places to
eat since we found out we were coming here (thanks Finlaysons!) and it
did not disappoint! We got aBBQ chicken, butternut squash, spinach
artichoke and pepperoni slices.
Next
stop was the Capitol Christmas tree. Grant saw this when he came to
Bethesda for an endo course 4 years ago (and here we are finally in endo
residency, yay!) and we thought it would be a fun December thing to do.
The weather was PERFECT. Sunny and relatively warm. Couldn't have asked
for a better day!
The
kids' favorite part of the day might have been chasing and scaring the
seagulls (a favorite beach activity). We saw a family later in the day
and a woman said, "oh, those are the cute boys that were scaring the
birds" haha.
Rowan
really wanted to go to a museum and he's been really excited about
space recently, so decided to check out the air and space Smithsonian.
It was great because it wasn't crowded, we walked through fairly quickly
and just saw the rooms we wanted to see!
Then
we took a good walk (Dylan slept in the ergo this entire time thus far)
over to the Christmas market where several people were selling treats
and art. We didn't get anything but it was fun to look around. Finally,
we shared a peppermint shake at Shake Shack and then hopped on the metro
back to get the car!
It
was such a great day together as a family. Wish we had more time to
explore with Grant (3 kids with only me in DC is a little intimidating)
but we are making good use of the time we do have!
