Rowan has
been looking forward to Kindergarten since preschool ended last year! I
was so happy that he was excited about school. He didn't seem even the
least bit nervous or apprehensive. Last week we went to see his
classroom and meet his teacher. He continued to be excited and counted
down the last days of summer until he could start school. I'm not sure
if actually going to school was what he was excited about, or getting to
finally wear his Nike's that we bought a month prior in our back to
school shopping.
The
day before school started he had a fever in the morning and didn't feel
great, although had no other symptoms. I prepped him for the fact that
his first day might have to be a day or 2 later, but that night he was
afebrile and said he felt good enough to go to school the next morning.
And he was!
I
had him fill out this questionnaire during breakfast and then we got
ready for school :) When you wake up at 6 am there is still a lot of
time before 9am school to start though!
This
cutie ready for his first day in his Nikes and deadly animal t-shirt
and "running shorts". I love that he picked out a super bright coral
colored backpack. It fits him perfectly and I know he's going to rock
it.
Most
kids at his school ride the bus, but since we live so close, we are
walkers. On the back to school night the other kids all got bus
necklaces so they could wear them the first week and make sure they got
on the right bus. Rowan didn't get a necklace since he didn't ride the
bus, so I made him a walking necklace so his teacher remembered that he
is a "walker" :) He was pretty excited about it.
He packed his own lunch the night before (I cut up the apple, he did the rest).
' Our walk to school. It takes about 5 minutes, helps us get a few extra
steps in...and I found out after school that Rowan is actually really
chatty on the way home and I found out more about school in the 5 min
walk home than I ever did in a 10 minute drive home from preschool. I
really hope this continues. I also made a pointed effort to ask him
specific questions to hopefully elicit good responses. So far it is
working!
I
got to walk him in the first day where they line up in the multi
purpose room. They are then escorted by their teachers to their
classroom when the bell rings. He was a little shy going in but so
excited still. He knows 2 friends from his church class who are in his
class at school, so having familiar faces I'm sure helped as well.
It
will be an adjustment for all of us, but I'm excited for him to take
this next step. Boden will miss his playmate but will probably enjoy
playing with "Rowan's toys" while he's gone, and I think it'll give us
some more time together which will be nice. We are always happy to see
him at the end of the day and hear about his school adventures!
