I was grateful to be able to spend a lot of time at home in Davis this summer. The timing worked out great because I got to see lots of my friends that were home visiting as well as spend a lot of time with my parents. We had so much fun that we even extended our trip by 5 days because Grant was busy at work and we were still having fun so decided to stay a few more days.
So here is a random assortment of some of the fun things we did while home!
Lots of time in the yard and picking things in the garden. This is one of my kids' favorite things to do at my parents house and they do a great job planting stuff that they'll be able to harvest.
Cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, grapes, plums, zucchini, squash, potatoes, eggplant
We made a lot of meals out of the things we picked, but one thing we had fun doing that we had never done before was making dill pickles! We got to try them on our last day there!
We also did a lot of bike riding and running. The weather was pretty great for our entire trip so we took advantage of the outdoor time (another part of why I decided to stay longer). Along the path where we rode most days are a bunch of blackberry bushes (where my parents even used to pick blackberries when they moved to Davis)...the kids loved it. The first day we just picked a few and ate them, but the next couple times we took tupperware and took them home and made blackberry crumble.
We also found a fun little library in someone's yard and "checked out" a book on sharks.
Davis is mostly surrounded by farmland and so many of the fields while we were there were FULL of sunflowers. It was a pretty amazing sight as we drove around. One awesome field was located along our regular ride.
Like I said, timing was great to get to see several friends who were home visiting. But we even lucked out enough to see the Remedios' who were in Sac visiting Dom's mom. We met one morning at Fairytale town and Funderland and had so much fun! We all picked up right where we left off. It was so cute to see the kids so excited to see each other (and I was of course super excited to see Barb and Dom too). And it was my kids' first time at Funderland and they loved it so much we had to go back again the next week :)

We got to see my friend Anna (who was home from Africa!) and her kids (Petra is only 3 weeks old). We had not seen each other since before I had Rowan. The kids loved getting to swim too
We also did an evening at Farmer's Market with the Bertolanis which was great. We saw Rachel and Lee and the kids in San Diego a little over a year ago, but only for a couple of hours. So it was fun to see them a few times while we were home and the kids had a great time playing together. It's kind of crazy to see a pic of all of our kids together!
Erin (who I also haven't seen since I was pregnant with Rowan!) was home with her 4 kids and we got to go to her aunt's apricot and peach orchard one day. The kids got tractor rides, we picked fruit to eat and make jam and swam in their pool. It was such a fun day!
Again...crazy how many kids there are!
Aside from all these fun day trips, we had a good time just being able to ride and walk to so many places. We rode downtown a few times for dinner and ice cream trips. My parents took the kids to see Incredibles 2, we did some shopping, washed the cars and played in the yard, etc.
Because I changed our flights, we ended up having to fly out of Oakland instead of Sac, but I decided the extra little drive was worth the extra week of playing. So, on the way to the airport I had my last meal of In N Out for awhile...
And then embarked on a 5 hour flight alone with 3 kids (in the middle of the day). I had hopes it would be ok but was a little nervous as well. I would say it went ok ;) Dylan was actually the only difficult one (and if any of them were going to be difficult I'm glad it was him). People respond a little better to a crying infant than a screaming preschooler. Rowan and Boden were both really good (but it's still not easy to take a kid to the bathroom on an airplane and have to wipe them with a baby on your front in a tiny airplane bathroom). Dylan cried off and on for the first 2 hours and then FINALLY gave up and went to sleep on me for the next 2 hours and woke up happy for the last hour of the flight.
This bathroom selfie was my most peaceful moment of the entire flight ;)
It was a great trip though and we were so excited to have Grant be able to pick us up at the airport. We flew in on Friday night so also had him around for the next 2 days which made our transition home much easier!
